The toronto school board has phased out the word "chief"

No more chief financial officer.
No more chief communications officer.

All in an attempt to show respect for Indigenous people. I'm not sure how the word chief shows disrespect for natives.

The word is not even a native word, it's English.

This crap makes my head hurt. Let's find problems where none exist.

Since when has “chief” every been used in a negative context?

It exclusively refers to a higher, respected position!

It’s as if these idiots don’t understand how language in general works.

Words are adopted and integrated into a language over time, often with completely different meanings.

Hell, the old use for the word “fag” was to describe a bundle of sticks!!!! It certainly became a negative term later on, and it now means something completely different, but that’s how language works.

If it becomes offensive, then sure go for it, we don’t need to spread any hate. But it’s a word that generates respect...

Like honestly. We might as well just get rid of the entire English language since you can trace every single word back to someone else’s culture if that’s the case

Now if we can only view “pc” as “personal computer” again, and forget all about this “politically correct” mess. I’ll live a happier life

There's always a certain irony in a group of snowflakes posting on a forum about how upset they are by other snowflakes.

On a side note Justin "airhead" Trudeau is such an idiot that he does not even take a stand to condemn this PC crap just shows what kind of imbecile is running Oh Canada. He allows the economy to collapse, just like the DNC, and allows for the influx of refugees to pour into Canada, creating huge debt, just like the DNC....

It is no wonder why Canadians want pot to be legal, so they can smoke it up and feel good and ignore how politics are ruining way of life and forget about how painful the world is atm.

Well, maybe some do exist. We all know that putting an ironic twist on a word can turn an honorific into an insult. Canada is currently engaged in trying to fix what's wrong with the way in which our Indigenous population has been and continues to be treated. It really is a daunting task to repair the results of 500 years of inequity, but we are trying to set a baseline from which we can all move forward. Some of these efforts are a little tough to understand...but sometimes we don't get to make the calls.

So, while this left me kinda scratching my head (and one MUST read the article for proper context), if it helps out just a little, then why not?
