How would we know anything about aliens, ufos, 911, elite, oil, nwo, hell even ghosts? I've been reading for along time that powers that be are gonna find or make an excuse to have the internet banned and rebuilt as a full on propoganda machine...how would we know anything about real UFOs and alien abductions, seriously we'd be screwed; I'm damn sure this is gonna happen soon, or maybe more towards the alien disclosure time. Back to the 80's when it happens...I mean I suppose ppl could make ATS sites over cellphone networks but how good would it be?

Opinions...although I have a feeling this is gonna be closed coz someone's probably already started a thread on this. But I can't find it so don't go nuts

What makes you think the internet could be banned? Any interesting links?
I don't think it would happen, to much money being made. If it did, someone would come up with a way to network to replace it, go underground. But back in the day, we releyed on books. The cat is out of the bag, and there is no putting it back in.

Check This Thread

The topic has been beaten like a dead horse, then beaten some more. Bottom line is this: The Internet Wont Go Away Or Be Goverment Owned and Controlled

The internet is a MAJOR part of our economy now. Banning it would be like banning food.

What if the internet gets banned?

Then we'd have a LOT more to worry about than where to talk about aliens.....

Nope. It's a risk the government or the "elite government" would never take.

Firstly, majority of the businesses we have nowadays need the internet such as the tourism industry and even the economic sector.By banning the internet, you're freezing the information flowing through the cyberspace and hence,it could even be seen as denying people of knowledge.Without the internet today, the world will be very boring man!

Futhermore,if they were to ban the net, surely and most definitely the elite government's cover would be blown. This is because intelligentsia like you and me who could read and think would wonder why the hell they're shutting down the internet?suspicion would arise.I don't think they want that right now.

If the liberal leftist at the DNC continue their assault on the "net" then ban it...........

Why would they want to ban the net? How else could they (insert your favorite group here) mis-inform, dis-inform, and continue to tells us what we want to hear?

Okay, what if all these conspiracy sites get shut down or switched off whatever u call it, because Homeland Security claims (after the next terror 'attack') that terrorists pulled it off through use of the net? Nothin would surprise me nowadays. Would there be anyway to get them back running againm without facing treason or terrorism charges?

I don't really think they could ban them, i mean just cause it would be illegal to host the site here ,they would just be hosted in another country.

As Rwatkins said there is alot of money involved , Everything from Retail to advertising. You start messing with peoples money than you get the kind of attention you don't want.

Again i don't know the likelyhood of a FCC type org for the internet being started, could happen could not.

I just wish someone would work on getting rid of all those Junk email i get,its insane!

I could see a lot of hard-core gamers Jumping out of windows if they couldn't play Everquest, ultima-online or city of heroes.

Just to go on a hypothetical and assume the internet does go down somehow, either via a major worm or some other thing that makes it screech to a halt either temporarily of permanently.

People were communicating and sharing these ideas before the internet was around. It has just gotten easier now. Before, however, you had people really dedicated to spreading what they saw as the truth.

My sentiments exactly. I'd jump out of Windows and into Linux
. It's hard enough dealing with EQ's expansion packs and patches. Sony better fix the internet and hook me back up or they don't get my $12.95 per month!

I wouldn't be jumping outta windows (though, as saint said, maybe Windows), but it would free up some time if I couldn't ever play City of Heroes. However, with this darn cast on, I can't use my right hand to play, so can't play CoH at all this month. Ahh well, it's all good. There has been plenty of other things for me to be doing with all this free time. Like hanging on ATS

I would just like to point out (and SO can probably back me up on my facts) that short of a completely catastrohpic failure of ALL internet hardware it cannot simply dissapear or be wiped out? The closest to such an event to the best of my knowledge was a coordinated DoS attack against primary dns servers, which even then didn't put much of a dent in the net. Course there was that BGP issue a while back which didn't seem to be as big a problem as it could have been.

Yes i remember i used to use those dial up bbses back in the day , only 11 people online at once(if you were lucky), I kind of miss the way chat was back then , those funky Dos programs TeleMate. The board i would go on would have monthly meetings to go to the movies or bowling. Fun stuff , i'm sure they would start poping back up if the internet was gone.

Good thought on some sort of castastrophy happening that would wipe out the net, then they would just hold off on recreating it ,until they could figure out how to do it "their way"(who they are i don't know:puz
.

I'd have to go outside and do something. *suffers panic attack* OUTSIDE AND DO SOMETHING?! What am I saying? But there are people out there! They might want to talk! What do I do then? Nono, this thought is too terrible to consider! Wha...what's that running in the background? Everquest? It's still there *exhales*. It was all just a bad dream.

I'm afraid I'd have the same reaction saint does. ;P

I agree with what others have said about the money and suspision issues. I doubt anything like this would happen...
Thank goodness.
