I would've been very disappointed if ANY cops handed their firearms to ANYONE.

Active shooter situation - complete chaos. Bullets flying around.

Stranger runs up to cop: "Heya buddy. Give me a gun!"
Cop: "Sure thing fella. We need all the help we can get. Here ya go."
Stranger shoots cop with own firearm: "Haha! Sucker."

Some people are idiots.

Would you be interested in sharing why you think that way?

To be clear, I don’t fault him for running away. And I don’t fault him for trying to help (though I do question how serious about it he was). I fault his actions once he decided to try and help. It’s the epitome of the phrase “good initiative, poor execution.”

So I’m genuinely interested in hearing from somebody who thinks what he did was fine.

This is a perfect example of the moronic mindset some gun owners have. They literally think they can do the job of a cop and join in the chaotic melee of a shoot out. This episode totally destroys the thinking of many guns owners who believe they can draw their 'concealed and carry' weapon and help the cops during a firearm incident as if they were 'Dirty Harry'!

How many gun owners are legends in their own minds. Hmm, I see many hands raised. That is disconcerting in the least.

Civilian goes up to cop. "Hey Buddy, if you've got a spare gun lend it me will you. I'll help you take out the bad guy."

Cop to civilian: Aw gee, that's kind of you...follow me to the squad car, I have a shotgun in there."

Cop hands shotgun to civilian, and civilian immediately shoots cop dead!

Cop's last dying words are..."WTF!"

Gun owners, get it into your thick skulls, you are not authorised to draw your weapons in public for a reason, a dammed good reason. It is so you don't...

a) shoot an innocent bystander in the crossfire,

b) you don't shoot a cop deliberately or by accident

c) you don't get shot yourself

d) you don't add to the chaos.

Stop believing you are Wyatt Earp. Let the cops and other law enforcement agencies deal with the situation, it's what they were created for, it's what they are trained for. You are just another bystander who should just hit the deck or get out the way, and STFU! If you pulled your weapon out here in Britain you would be either disarmed or put down in an instant by our brilliant gun-toting cops!

Lend me your gun, indeed. Some of you are just not right in the head!

Actually this guy is a very very special level of stupid, not even remotely indicative of the vast majority of gun owners.

I can see what people dislike in him....I just think he's a cool sonz of beach. Would I run toward fully auto machine gun fire? Would I ask a cop for a gun? I'll leave that unanswered, but some (many) idiots love the Kardashians, I'm a Bilzeraian idiot. MERICA! MERICA! MERICA!

32 floors 100 meters NOT 300 ,approach is right beneath, shoot ABOVE the target with windage.
NO SNIPER is necessary, any expert rifleman can do it.
THEN get arrested for it afterward,NO good deed ever goes unpunished.

I don't think you're accounting for the distance plus height. From what I saw the venue itself was between 250-450m distance as well as his height up being another 3-4m per floor. I'm not the best at trig and all but I'm pretty sure unless he was across the street the venue was beside he was not 100m. Either way though...who shoots at a hotel window 32 floors up with a rifle when its full of people?? Seems the margin of error is pretty slim there. Little high little low...little left little right and you're lobbing rounds into other rooms or through the floor into the room above. In any case not smart...

What a dick.

I love the reaction from the cop.

Really though, he could have helped by tending to the wounded. Rambo was going to shoot at what exactly?

Honestly, he probably thought appearing to return fire would look super cool on Instagram.

That's the only reason I can think of to have somebody filming him running heroically back to the venue. Better angles and such than trying to film it himself.

....but you know what? He DID IT!

It's about suppressing fire, and diverting it from the crowd.

From the outside only a sniper with thermal optics could have accurately identified and neutralized the shooter, anything else would be blind fire and an inhabited structure.

I doubt many people berating him would have even thought twice about trying to help however dumb or misguided it seems after the fact.

In this kind of chaos its very dangerous to be handling a firearm without being clearly identifiable as law enforcement, I do not suggest it.

He said something about "I showed you my creds."

What, exactly, those creds might be I have no idea. I wasn't aware Instagram issues creds.

One of his dickriding sponsors posted something on their page last night that “he’s actually a sworn reserve officer.” So that may be the creds he claims to have.

Given his history of pretty open substance abuse and multiple felony charges, I’m not convinced there isn’t an “honorary” stamped on whatever creds he may possess.

You don’t suppress fire coming from a hotel. You have no idea if there are people in the rooms next to, above, and below the shooter. A handgun at that range isn’t going to put accurate fire in on the shooter.

And you haven’t explained what it is you think he did that’s so great, and why.

Obviously wherever you learned your firearms skills did not instruct the class in the highly effective 'Spray and Pray' tactic of weapons discharge. This method is still taught at the War College and would have easily neutralized the shooter by injudiciously eliminating civilians near his position. He would have been like all, 'Holy f***! They just hosed all those peeps, I guess they means business. I best be surrendering abouts now!'.
