When I went to check on the progress of the dam being built, this little guy came up to say hello.

I love the eyes of the one in the second picture and of course, laid back bear. I could see us being great friends if I wasn't always worried I was being thought of as dinner.
Also, the silver fox on top of this page. He/She is gorgeous!

I don't usually post much anymore especially in BTS however, wow, your municipality needs some serious help with wildlife management. Very problematic and concerning. This sort of poor practice results in increased conflict with bears, it's bad for them physiologically, and it makes people think wildlife feeding on provisioned food is okay--it isn't. Sad.

I know their not pets, but I couldn't figure out the best forum to post these.

Today I took some pictures of the local bear population at work.

Just a warning - Do not get close to bears.
I was in a a truck while taking these pictures and had my partner keeping an eye on the bears I wasnt focusing on.

Cool bear pics.....

Just curiously do they always hang out at the tip or are they ever edging closer to human habitation through the lack of food in their natural environment ?

This isnt in a municipality. These photos are taken almost 2 hours away from the closest habitable location.

The picture below has Lake Superior for a reference.
Notice how there is absolutely nothing around here but wilderness?

Id say that wildlife has more of a rite to be here than we do!

As well, the dump is located on the outskirts of the mine site





The dump is 3 km as a crow fly's from the main camp - Where 500 workers sleep.
A location this size, needs a dump. And we take every reasonable precaution to ensure the safety of our workers and the wildlife in the surrounding environment.

Ill say about 90% of the time the bears stick around the dump.

After all, 500 employees eat every meal of the day here.
So there is A LOT of waste.
3 times a day a pick up truck loaded with scraps thrown out from peoples meals are basically delivered to the bears.
Its unfortunate that the bears no longer need to hunt for their food,
but it is a repercussion from having a mine site in Northern Ontario.

No matter what you do, the bears will always find a way to get into the garbage.
So the best option is to keep the dump as far away from the employees as possible.

If old Downy bear became a viral meme I would give the best caption an awesome prize.

We call him Downy bear because of that old fabric softener commercial. There was this cute cuddly teddy bear in the commercials.
So I said that this guy should have been the Downy bear in the commercials.
Since then thats what hes become known as around site.

HAHAHA.
Yesterday morning there had to be at least 8 of the bears all walking in a row on top of that 24 inch pipe.

Looked like a damn circus bear parade lol
