Hi Folks.

From time to time I like to look at the ISS live feed and gaze upon our beautiful living planet. It's always a beautiful blue. A wonderful sight.

I've just had a look on the live feed this morning to see something very interesting - our planet is no longer blue, but purple.

I scrolled further down the thumbnails of previous live feeds and saw that our planet was its usual blue a few days ago, Tuesday, but since then it's turned purple.

I do hope someone knowledgeable can explain what and why this is happening.

Here's a link to the live feed I'm watching ....

Has anyone seen anything like it before?

Oh ok guys lol, thanks for that. Such an obvious answer, I feel so stupid lol.

I don't know a thing about the equipment they use and certainly didn't know they use coloured filters.

But thanks again for the replies. In future I'll make sure I've woken up properly before I post on t'internet.

Well, it is 'hangover sunday' in my gaff. Again.

Apologies if a stupid question, but I noticed that the blue atmosphere of our planet is seen as its usual blue even with the 'purple filter' over it, why is this? Is it a special filter?

Again, apologies, I know nothing about photography and filters etc.

Everything is purple with the purple filter, so why isn't the atmosphere also purple?

Probably a simple answer, fancy filters or such like.

I have cyanopsia (permanent blue vision). Perhaps the camera suffers from the same affliction? Life looks the same from my day to day, so I wouldn't be too worried.

i wouldn't expect it to be a colour filter - that feels a little ostentatious and unnecessary for such a Science Vehicle..
my guess would be a fault with the actual camera or broadcast equipment.
like have you ever bumped the cable of your monitor in such a way that it stays plugged in and working, but you lose, say, the cyan channel? i've done that too many times to count.

With a total lack of science backing it could it have something to do with the solar activity?

Purple is made from mixing red and blue together, but not green. Purple filters block the green light. The sky is blue, so the purple lets the blue sky through.

As in Obama, Obammy, Bammy.

Like I say, just guessing.

I suppose it could be Alabammy. Who knows? (And who cares?)
