Bluntone.

1..The source of the article in this OP was one person at a website.

2..The source for that article was gotten from the SUN in England.

3..That Sun article mentioned only ''a hospital'' in Bristol Virginia

4.. Trish Patterson, a nurse at one of the town's hospitals, told KRCR: "ONE OF MY COLLEAGUE'' at moonlight here stated yesterday that they had patients presenting at their clinic that put sunscreen on their eyeball, and presented that they were having pain and they were referred to an ophthalmologist."

So far it comes down to one article in the SUN about a clinic in Virginia and that to only one medic who reported what a colleague told her..

So skip to the Fox news report you cite in your thread.

Fox also reported from the SUN. In it the only credit that was given was from a single medic in Redding California
''yewear.

“One of my colleagues at moonlight here stated yesterday that they had patients presenting at their clinic that put sunscreen on their eyeball, and presented that they were having pain and they were referred to an ophthalmologist,” Trish Patterson, a nurse at Prestige Urgent Care in Redding, Calif., said. ''

So, Trish Patterson is quoted in both stories, but one has her in Virginia and the other in California.

And Trish Patterson, who ever, if ever, she is, is still reporting ''second hand information''. For all we know that other person was making a joke.

I googled and found many repeats of this story over the last week but they all were only repeating what was read elsewhere, apparently THE SUN.

Can you understand my skepticism?

Why you have to ruin the fun. Even still, it's still funny, if it's not true. Just one mind thinking outside the box.

Real story or fake story, either way it doesn't matter. The real question that needs to be asked is...

How many of you were legitimately NOT surprised that someone would try this?

Not too long ago, if I would have read a headline about someone putting sunscreen in their eyes to look at an eclipse or a similar type of article about someone being stupid, I would not have believed it. My first thought would have been that nobody was THAT stupid. Now days, it doesn't surprise me at all. Natural selection at its finest

Never, ever underestimate the stupidity of people.

I'm not even convinced the absolute smartest among us are all that bright in the grand scheme of the universe. Its not like we would know, we only have ourselves to compare with and that might only be because of opposable thumbs.

Just wait till 2024. More stupid will rear it's head.
Some will probably be repeat offenders. Sadly.

I guess we differ there. Jokes are one thing but passing off shoddy journalism as truth is another. I'm not one much to laugh at others ignorant behavior when it is real. However when I know that it is intentional humorous and fictional, such as in Dumb and Dumber, I laugh my head off. But when people make up stupid stuff and claim it is REAL stupid stuff just to prove to those who will eat it up in pursuit of their own superiority, I just can't have fun with it.

I guess you are further over the line than I am Rainy. I saw the headline in the OP and said to myself, ''Oh pray this is not true". I've seen enough ignorant actions on peoples parts to know that we are capable of some serious stupidity. I clicked into this thread hoping to see it was a lark or a joke.

What I found was that there is a high likelihood that it is not true, as I pointed out in a previous reply, but rather a case of very shoddy journalism. What I find sad though, is the number of people who have repeated this tenuous news byte across the internet and believed it to be true without so much as a cursory check into it's validity.

This is tragic for two reason's, people laughing at vulnerable low intelligence or (and far more likely) uneducated low income people whom have had this accident and the fact that there lives were so deficient that they ended up like this in the first place, I would actually be terribly ashamed if I laughed at these poor soul's it is a tragedy of social circumstance and nothing more, except for those that are educated but just damn stupid anyway.

Yes we laugh at laurel and hardy, falling down a flight of stairs with a piano but no one is really hurt (And they did there own stunt's), in this case these unfortunate soul's may be blinded for life, do they really deserve to be laughed at or does a system that left them so uneducated rather demand you to be very angry with it.

There but for the grace of God go you.
