GENESIS 3:15 - And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel."

The Enmity

The term “enmity” denotes a disposition of hostility, whether between individuals (Num. 35:21-22), or between bodies of people (Ezek. 25:15; 35:5).

Between what parties is there enmity, as suggested in this text?

While some see it as an abiding antipathy between humans and snakes (Owen, 13), clearly the scope moves far beyond such a trite explanation.

The language denotes the initial spirit of antagonism between Eve and her adversary (her destroyer), together with the suggestion that there would be a spiritual hostility developing between the woman’s seed, Christ (along with his people), and Satan and his followers.

This theme is well illustrated in the parable of the tares (see Mt. 13:24-30; 36-43; cf. 1 Jn. 3:10).

So Satan and his followers are not of the woman's seed (Christ and his disciples) so not everyone on earth is a child of God. They have made a decision to reject him and be disobedient for whatever reason.

Your thoughts?

Yeah, the writers of the Bible were smart enough to put in a line or two about how some people wouldn't believe the unbelievable story they are trying to sell. And how those people are full of the devil.

Genius i say. That way, when christians are wondering why not everybody wants to be a #ing Christian, there will be a line or two in the book that explains it.

It's almost like there were several Versions of religions that they could just pick and choose from, that way they get the best and most persuasive tactics to use on the public.

Also known as another thread about how you're a piece of # if you're not a Christian.

The English translation of enmity is:

the state or feeling of being actively opposed or hostile to someone or something.

Used in a sentence:
"enmity between Protestants and Catholics"

So in context with Genesis 3:15
The women would constantly feel an opposition towards the seed of evil.

So there is a border or line that divides good and evil.

But what is good and what is evil? Who are good and who are evil?

If one evil person decides to help someone, does that still make him evil?

Or if a good person does bad, does that make him good?

Trying to figure out the Bible should be compared to modern morals and standards, and most will agree that we are moralistic creatures, after our ancestors were indoctrinated to do good all the way down to the subconscious.

So in modern society we are subconsciously good or evil... Depending on your ancestors morals.

But in this case the woman's seed is good and the serpents seed is bad.. or am I wrong on all points?

Why is there only two options? "Believe in god" or you're "following Satan"

Can't I just reject your god and not have to follow anything?

I don't use the same framework of understanding, but I certainly have thought it was a possibility. I can't say I believe it is necessarily split in terms of those who frequently only are a "child of God" in the most superficial terms imaginable and the "unclean."

That is rather immaterial to the point though, that it may well be pointing to a larger concept that some homo sapiens are more.. "present," or "alive" than others.

In this respect, some would be a bit more like trees, plants, or even something like geological processes and others would be a bit different systems. There are a few outlooks that perceive our physical form as some sort of vessel. I guess you could say that where they vary is what fills it, if anything, and how full. Commonly, it seems to be an all or nothing approach. i.e. everybody has a soul/spirit versus nobody has a soul/spirit.

Removing the notion of one being more important than the other, both would have their place and purpose (so to speak). Some would persist beyond this life, others would not, with the ever-present opportunity to grow the branches that would bear the fruit of persistence.

Hi Deathslayer. It is great to see you are so curious and question things so deeply. Reminds me of me.
If I recall correctly one of Buddha's teaching's. He asked his disciples to question everything. Even the very things he was teaching.
But back to your question. I have contemplated these verses before. Of course we can see the obvious which are two groups - God loving people who adhere to Gods commandments and those who don't. Non sinners and sinners.

This is a theory only. But it is possible that there are in fact several bloodlines. Hmmm? Lets say the Angel Satan is a higher being from the upper planets. In the garden of Eden, Eve was tempted by Satan. As it is written in Genesis that the fallen angels took human women for themselves. The forbidden fruit she ate was in actuality the act of her being tempted by Satan and taking in his seed. Thus giving birth to her first born called Cain. While Abel came after and was the progeny of Adam.
Thus from the very beginning there are 2 bloodlines. Two seeds. One from Lucifer and one from Adam.
Of course this is just a theory. But it gives you something to think about.

My self I am a Child of the Sons of Mil and the Tuatha De Dannan. Jehovah has nothing to do with me
Mind you that is my own UPG, just as being a "Son of God" is many peoples UPG. Can't prove it, can only believe it

Thats is the problem with a monotheistic, dualistic religion. You are either with them OR against them. I like my polytheism just as it is
The world is shades of colour. Jehovah's followers have over inflated opinions of themselves and their little deity

Exodus 32:25When Moses saw that the people had broken loose, (for Aaron had let them loose for a derision among their enemies), 26then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Whoever is on Yahweh's side, come to me!" All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. 27He said to them, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, 'Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.'" 28The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. 29Moses said, "Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, yes, every man against his son, and against his brother; that he may bestow on you a blessing this day."

As I pondered that verse
I fell into a deep sleep
and as I slept
I dreamed.

A man fled from that madness
that awful choice.
He made his way through the desert
hiding out from all men.

He went North
and found the horses.

When I awoke
the radio was playing

Quite right. God created all of us, and He gave all of us the free will to decide for ourselves whether or not to follow His rules, and be with Him. Those that reject Him are not His. And, yes, those people are very hostile, frequently, toward those who are His. We can see this in the media, daily.

Hi,

I have indeed thought of this.....Eve having sex with Satan in the garden of Eve and then later a threesome? Like you said a possible theory.

I have never seen a talking snake, never heard of one, and if Eve did I think she would have ran away and told her man. Common sense since no animals actually can talk ...a few can imitate (parrot)

Lucifer is a good looking male, actually noted in the bible about his looks and character, one hottie....as some would call him today. Many have met him, he is not red with horns and a tail and most of the time acts like he originally was - this one walks as those in heaven yet he is fallen from God's grace. Normally he shows up as either a white guy or a black guy, he does not threaten you (at least not at the beginning) he is kind, patient and ask you what you want....he gives freely but expects payment by first bending a knee to him - That is all you have to do to lose any salvation you thought you might have.....

I think the forbidden fruit was not a fruit but something else. I have heard fruit called concerning specific woman body part.

But like you said we are talking possible bloodlines and I think we should also consider this:

What does one Christian man say to the other? "Brother" and yet thou no bloodlines - brother as in part of a group designation.

Key word in Gen 3:15 is seed. Seeds grow and mature then reproduce and multiple. Same family - not necessarily all come from seed A but also b,c,d,e,f .....etc ....yet of the same family (group)

So by association would put someone in that particular group or family.

Your attempt to rethread this OP will not work. I am not attacking you.

This discussion concerns Gen 3:15 and no other. I even left notes of parables to Gen 3:15:
(see Mt. 13:24-30; 36-43; cf. 1 Jn. 3:10).

That is a problem with religious material, those who are asleep, talk in their sleep.

Let those who are enlightened understand.

I second this. Unfortunately there is nothing on this earth that has been penned by God, yet... At the same time, everything has been...

Let that one sink in for a while

Whenever you remove someone who thinks for themselves, who in fact is the one to cast stones,if you want to push an agenda then you line things up accordingly, that way you can predict it before it happens, and be thought a saint or a seer, common sense says BS

Decision (choice).

I was giving my reason.

If you bring wheat and tares in: The tares are burned and the wheat gets eaten. Perhaps it is better to be a wild plant away from the farmer's fields.

I agree with both of you when talking about not believing in everything written in the bible...I agree 100%

BUT:

The errors in the bible deal with small issues such as propositions, pronouns, verbal mistranslations, due to scribe error. The words of God, his prophets, the words of his begotten son and his apostles......well I would recommend you tread very lightly if you have any respect for your creator.
