Regarding this fourth paid undisclosed operative, offering up cogent arguments in defense of the "possibility" that it was no biggie, seems to be a wasted exercise, no?

A fake news service
A fake reporter
A fake name

AND AN ALL ACCESS PRESS PASS, in the era of Ashkroft, no less..........he wasn't planted by the administration!?!

The real illustration of propaganda being our sole information feed will be in the making of a non-story out of this major one.

Thought this was interesting too

Gannon gets Plame memo.
Gannon gets interviewed by FBI, who asks him to disclose memo.
Gannon claims that the press can protect its source, doesn't give up the name.

Question: If Gannon isn't actually press, isn't he required to give up the source of the leak?

If he is involved in Plame or is questioned about any of his White House escapades then he shouldn't be able to use journalistic cover

Looks like he's really getting shafted now

So Nerdling - I wanna know - why didn't/don't you write this as a news piece?

first paying off two pundits to promote the White house agenda, then gannon. What else have they done?

Do we actaully have a free press anymore?

Jehosephat, no, we don't. GOP owns/runs Fox News, they hire people to get on other news channel to spew forth the republican propaganda, and they get their own people to sit in on press conferences to screw up the system.

Also, did anyone forget that Bush&Co screened everyone who wanted to go to a Bush thing while he was campaigning to make sure they all signed a paper saying they supported Bush and could be prosecuted if they signed the paper but didn't support Bush? Why would a press conference be any different? "Who do you write for?" "The Truth Paper." Bam, dead body taken to the back. "Who do you write for?" "Bush is God Paper." Come on in.

The Times has a nice "sex free" summation of Representatives' mounting calls for investigation.

Just the news. No "Bill O' Booby" tabloid stuff.

The Democrats, Representatives John Conyers Jr. of Michigan and Louise M. Slaughter from Rochester, wrote yesterday to Patrick Fitzgerald, the independent prosecutor appointed in the Plame case, seeking an investigation into how the reporter, James D. Guckert, who used the name Jeff Gannon, had access to classified documents that revealed the identity of Ms. Plame.

Until Wednesday when he resigned, Mr. Guckert worked for TalonNews.com, a Web site operated by Robert Eberle, a Texas Republican. Mr. Guckert said in a March 2004 interview with his own news service, in which he was referred to as Mr. Gannon, that the classified document had been "easily accessible." The two Democrats questioned how a person with "dubious qualifications" had access to such a document. The Democrats also wrote to the Secret Service seeking an explanation of how someone using a pseudonym was cleared to enter the White House daily press briefings as well as a presidential news conference last month. They said in their letter that allowing such a person in "appears to deviate significantly from heightened security measures you have employed recently."

It's a serious security issue. This though.... :shk:

Scott McClellan, the White House press secretary, told reporters yesterday that Mr. Bush did not know who Mr. Guckert was. Mr. McClellan said that Mr. Guckert entered the White House under his real name and "like anyone else, showed that he was representing a news organization that published regularly, and so he was cleared two years ago to receive daily passes, just like many others are."

Mr. Guckert was denied credentials to cover Capitol Hill, where press gallery workers said that his application indicated Talon was not his main source of income and that they could not verify its legitimacy.

96 hours after the creation of "TalonNews" and McClellan says "Gannon" qualified as being "published regularly." McClellan is a liar. A liar's liar in fact. In-credible (literally).

Karl Frisch, a spokesman for Ms. Slaughter, said: "This is a guy who could not get credentialed by the House or the Senate press galleries, and yet managed to get into the White House and question the president" and have access to a top-secret document.

He added: "To imply he has no connection to the White House is just not credible."

Nice cut and past there Bout, but it isn't the same guy. Nice try though. How long have you worked for the DNC?

With all the ultra-left media bias, how dare you attack this fine young man. He's a nice "boy" leave him alone...........

Seriously this is one of the fastest "hatchet" jobs I have ever seen anywhere. Gonna make a point to pick "mainstream" reporters and do similar "background" checks. Personally.

My favorite quote from this scenario is also by McClellan: "I don't think it's the role of the press secretary to get into the business of being a media critic or picking and choosing who gets credentials."

Come on, folks, it's not *his* job to make sure the "reporters" are *actually* reporters. He's just the press secretary.

I had heard about a journalist with access to the President who should not have had acess but I did not know about this. Here is a website with articles written by the guy, apparently they have been removed from the website he represented. Also looks like they have some interviews on there as well.

Horacid - you should volunteer to be the next Talon news reporter! Here's the link!!

So, if we are to be perfectly clear, you feel "Gannon" is a "victim", and that there's nothing wrong with the White House planting him? And yes, they most certainly planted him, since the same background check flagged him & barred him from Congressional press coverage.

How long have you been working for the RNC?

RANT, McClellan has never told the truth in his life, if the question is to hot he dumps it off to someone who the reporters dont have access to which hopfully delays the question long enough that the reporter forgets it.

Seriously, do they issue brainwashing drugs with your neocon member card?

The sole purpose of this reporter was to ask softball questions to the President. He is unqualified and has no press credentials.

He also seems to be involved in the Valerie Plame investigation. He's implicated in many other things too.... oh the pleasure.

DrHoracid has started this topic under a new name. it was funny, basically the devil/liberals are out to get this guy cause he loves to kiss ass, Bush's, not talking about what he does on his personal time.

Anyways, they don't give brainwashing drugs when you sign up, they ask if you want them and they almost always do to block the hideous mind numbing pain of being a Bush Baby.

You can buy your own White House press pass on
eBay.

Or just get crayon and make your own.

Hello Secret Service! I'm Jeff Gannon. Here's me walking in the White House. Do-de-do. Hey! It's leaked documents. Do-de-do. Hi Osama! Do-de-do. Hey, it's Scottie McClellan. Call on me! Call on me! Yippie! I'm on TV!!! Hurrrah! Being a real White House reporter is awesome! I feel just like Lois Lane.

I want one! How good is whitehouse security? Think I could get in a gun and hold myself hostage? Have the gun to my throat. "If you don't declare God as king I will kill myself! Com,e on, we all know god/Bush should be king for life, now do it or I kill myself." Think that would make it on the news?

If this very thread does not show the narrow minded, ignorance of the "elite" liberals on this site, nothing else will.

Elite arrogance of libs "whispering" juvenile BS to each other does not make something true. So what drugs do you "elite" take to escape reality? You are not living in this world. Your arrogance is self deluding........

Elite? Yes, I am sure that the middle/lower class of the people feel elite to the millionaires and billionaires of the republican party. I am sure we feel superior drinking soda while those poor republicans drink thousand dollar bottles of wine.

Narrow mindness? Because we don't plant reporters, pay reporters to spew forth republican propoganda, or own a news channel we are narrow minded?
