Well that and churches are big business.

They've been doing this for ages in England. Residents who just moved out of the cities into the rural villages would complain that the sound of church bells was disturbing their peace and tranquility in the early hours of the morning. But there were also some church vicars who decided it would be a wonderfully good idea to raise church funds by charging a fee to let anyone ring the bells for 5 minutes or so.

We've had air stewardesses and nurses being banned from wearing crucifixes no matter how small (potential injury risk). Some nurses were even suspended for giving someone a prayer.

If the group pursues legal action, a successful lawsuit could potentially force East Central University to remove the symbols for good.

No legal action has been initiated East Central University over the issue, and no court order has been issued forcing East Central University to remove Christian symbols. As of 23 August 2017, the symbols have been restored to the chapel (including a cross that was never removed in the first place).

We have received a complaint that East Central University’s Kathryn P. Boswell Memorial Chapel has permanent religious iconography on display. These displays include Latin crosses on the top of and inside the building, Bibles, and a Christian altar. While it is legal for a public university to have a space that can be used by students for religious worship so long as that space is not dedicated solely to that purpose, it is a violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to display religious iconography on government property.

A spokesperson for Americans United for Separation of Church and State confirmed that the group would be taking further action on the Boswell Chapel case, and provided us with the rationale behind their request.

They are cutting off a cross of a chapel...which is located on the grounds of a university. For them to do that, there must have been a ton of opportunities for the xtians to speak out...board meetings, hearings, court proceedings.

The university must be getting some state funds, therefore someone was upset that there's a "xtian" chapel there, and maybe not a jewish temple, buddhist temple, or a mosque or whatever. I'm pretty sure that this didn't happen overnight in a vaccuum. (Not like when Art Modell moved the colts from baltimore to Indiana.)

The time to speak out is at those board meetings, at those hearings, at the court. Not afterwards and playing the martyr.

As a Christian, I can tell you I don't need to wear a cross or hear church bells to be one. If it will stop all this murdering over religion than I don't care. As long as it's EVERYBODY, and not just Christians.

the chapel, on the unversity grounds, is supposed to be non-denominational and not specific to any one religion.

for you to present this as a christian church being forced to give up all its sacred symbols and then extend that to a cry of doom that all christians are going to be oppressed is misleading and dumb as #.
