Sorry, your claim that the mission was so secret that 'the vessels itinerary wasn't listed enroute or return' is false, the Indianapolis appeared on two tracking boards after they delivered the bomb parts.

ETA: I like how you didn't post what book it was.

I can't remember the title. In it though, the guy that gave his account suggested that the Navy ignored the maydays, because mounting a rescue mission would attract Japanese vessels to the area, survivors might be captured and interrogated, a week before the first bomb was dropped.

Thats the horrible math I wanted you to 'figure'. In the aftermath they Navy couldn't admit to letting the survivors languish and perish because of that, though. So they made up ignoring the maydays, the official records as well as Hollywood's reflect that.

Its the same 'math' used at Pearl Harbor when the newly installed radar station detected a mass of incoming aircraft, but were told to ignore it.

Either way, the commands in two Pacific locations were aware of its return course from Tinian.

A Japanese submarine sunk the cruiser on July 30, 1945. The ship just completed a mission to the island of Tinian; they delivered components of the atomic bomb, “Little Boy” that helped end the war.

Makes you think what would have happened if the Japanese sank it before the delivery!
