A few quotes about how the Vedas understood things. I've seen a lot of threads on biblical accounts but nothing much beyond that. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with it, but its worth a look no less than any biblical view of the world.

On August 7, 2017 there was a Partial Lunar Eclipse at around 8:50 am-1:50 pm PDT, followed by a Total Solar Eclipse on August 21, 2017, from around 9 am-12 pm PDT.

Everyone seems to be discussing the August 21, 2017 solar eclipse. There are even flights to go view it! In Jyotish, or, Vedic astrology and astronomy, eclipses are particularly powerful events. Eclipses occur when the nodes, Rahu (North) or Ketu (South) fall within a certain astronomical degree of the Sun / Moon. Since eclipses occlude the luminaries, the Sun or Moon, from our vision, they are viewed as inauspicious events in Vedic astrology. Jyotish suggests the the times of eclipses are ideal for spiritual practices.

Solar eclipses occur on a new Moon when the Sun and Moon are closely aligned with one of the nodes, Rahu or Ketu. In Vedic astrology, eclipses weaken both the Sun and the Moon.

While many people are intent on watching the eclipse, this is never recommended in the tradition of Vedic astrology. Those who do look at them may suffer from greater difficulty in the future.

MAGHA NAKSHATRA

The August 21, 2017 solar eclipse takes place in the star or nakshatra of Magha. In Western astronomy, this star is known as Regulus. Sun and Moon will be in Magha during the eclipse. Mercury retrograde will move into Magha later in the day. Thus, be extra careful with communication. Stay away from your electronic devices.

They symbol for Magha is the royal throne. There is a connection with ancestry and creating lineages. The eclipse also falls right on the ascendant of the current leader, who seems to be attracting even more attention than usual. This person was also born on an eclipse. The fallout will continue. There could also be greater conflict with foreign countries (Rahu represents foreigners and things which are hidden.) Rahu will have just moved into this individual’s house of foreign affairs. Change can come suddenly and quickly. There can be impulsive activity with dire consequences.

Because of the eclipse in the fire sign of Leo and in the star of Magha, there may be fiery accidents than in places where the eclipses is visible.

Eclipses.....

Rig Veda 5.40.5
“O Sun! When you are blocked by the one whom you gifted your own light (moon), then earth gets scared by sudden darkness.”

This is a remarkably accurate, if not primitive, description of a solar eclipse.

The Vedas' detailed descriptions of the universe, planets, and other phenomena demonstrates these people's vast knowledge, far before modern civilization. Take a bow.


The Speed of Light

This might not be exactly from the Vedas, but a Vedic scholar, by the name of Sayana, discovered the speed of light in the 14th century AD. 

His quote - ""With deep respect, I bow to the sun, who travels 2,202 yojanas in half a nimesha."

A yojana is approximately 9 miles; a nimesha is 16/75 of a second. Therefore: 2,202 yojanas x 9 miles x 75/8 nimeshas = 185,794 miles per second.

For a 14th century Vedic scholar, this discovery is absolutely astonishing. Nobody knows how he did it, but his source of information must have been the Vedas, which further validates its cosmologic credibility.

The birds will be spooked and whitewash all the people wearing their glasses. Very dangerous time, maybe fitting them with added safety glasses sides and top would be advisable. Bird poop really burns when you get it in your eye. I learned that about forty years ago.

I got seagul poop in my eye one day when I was feeding them at the beach. That was long ago, I learned not to attract them by eating at the beach after that.

Not without the special glasses, I hope! Ruined one eye permanently watching a partial eclipse.

All in all, if we are not just thinking us a total solar eclipse is visible from somewhere on Earth about every 18 months.

In terms of the United States, the August 21, 2017 total solar eclipse is the first to traverse the country in nearly a century. The last time a total solar eclipse occurred in the Lower 48 was 1979—and that was only visible from a few states in the Pacific Northwest. This 2017 eclipse will cross the country from coast to coast. The next time a total solar eclipse will traverse from coast to coast will be in 2045.

My eyes were completely protected, no worries. Bought that thing weeks prior, worked like a charm. You don't need it of course, as soon as you are in the core shadow. Which is something that I heavily suggest to do! I envy everyone able to see it at a clear sky, the last half-eclipse here around was with dark clouds, it just got a bit darker :-(

I'm in a very safe place myself and will only get the second tier of visibility. Not the total.

I actually like to take ancient ideas and at least give them a bit of consideration. My gut tells me they were a lot smarter than we of this pompous generation give them credit for. The zodiac has been around a long long time and I don't think it would have withstoood the rest of time if there wasn't something too it. There is more of a science to it then just your daily newspaper prediction of the day.

I think if anything bad is going to happen, it is going to be because of city folks descending on the country folks to get their little two minute glimpse. I'm not not all the i visitors are going to be 100% respectful. Country folks don't care for rude too much.
