Quantum tunneling or tunneling (see spelling differences) refers to the quantum mechanical phenomenon where a particle tunnels through a barrier that it classically could not surmount.

I'm very confused this isn't new at all. We were aware of this since the 60s. It's simply a way to convery energy from one type to another.

The original prediction is that in a gravitational gradient a certain symmetry would be broken. It would be pretty hard to test as you would need a very dense body (black hole) to create the effect.

In this experiment they used a temperature gradient instead to reproduce the predicted effect.

Sometimes I get excited about "might have beens" and go beyond the pale on what the discovery may mean.

The whole NP = NPR is kind of a case in point.

Thanks to the ATSers that actually know shtuff and work in the field.

I was over enthusiastic about what I read while thinking of "quantum magic" and nullifying gravity.
