I cannot believe the cruelty of some law enforcement officers. A video posted by ABC news appears to show two Border Patrol Agents prompting the teen to drink the liquid. Subsequently the teen died of a heart attack.

I think they should be charged with first degree murder.

The video is at the news source below.

“What you see, I think, is a basic lack of compassion and decency toward a 16-year-old boy,” the Velazquez family lawyer Eugene Iredale told ABC. “Almost a delight that you would see in children who just pull the wings off flies slowly, a smile when he’s being asked to drink something and being put in this position.” “They know what’s going on,” Iredale said. “This is a game in which he is being played with.” “Drug smuggling is wrong and is a crime, but this teenage boy did not deserve a death sentence,” Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), ranking member of the House Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security said. “For CBP officers to inflict a summary death sentence is not only immoral, but also illegal.”

This is just horrible.

I'm sure some people will chime in saying if you want to smuggle drugs as an illegal immigrant "this is what you get" or something along those lines.

But we have laws, and they were clearly broken by both parties. Two wrongs don't make a right.

So the kid has a liquid substance that he claims is juice and the b.p says is that drugs? The kid says no, do you want me to prove it by drinking it? B.P. Sure if you say it's just juice, outcome, idiot drinks juice o.d's and life goes on.

What's the problem?

If that's what happened, the kid wasn't going to go far in life anyway.

Really? That is your mentality? Okay. The cops were wrong for allowing that to happen. They deserve prison time. Allowing him to handle evidence, and allowing him to drink it....I have never seen or heard of such crap!!!!

It should also be noted that many smugglers/mules don't have much choice in the matter.

Its a really tough situation that almost inevitably leads to horrible outcomes like this story.

Great, how we can trust the Border Patrol to protect our borders if they act like this. It is people like them that allows Cartels to come into this country. Corrupt Border Patrol agents can easily be bribed. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if these Border Patrol agents worked for a competitor and that they were ordered to kill him.

Brahahahahahahaha!

He got what he deserved! I've cared for more meth O.D.'s in ER and ICU than I can think of.
The punk drug smuggler thought that he could BS his way past the border.
I didn't see the criminal being forced to drink it. He did it on his own volition.
Good riddance and give him a Darwin Award.

Well then it bears reprinting from time to time. Effective deterrence, never know when you might wind up a drug mule and encounter these two 'agents'.

whispers-- pass the word.

That's exactly what happened, I guess people don't care to understand the situation before they fly off the rocker, doesn't surprise me though.

The agents prompted the boy to drink it after the boy volunteered to do so.

If anything, it shows a complete lack of understanding on the part of the smuggler as to how dangerous to your health that meth is. If he didn't know that the concentration would kill him, he certainly wouldn't have known how dangerous it is to the people it would have been sold to. Not that he cared.

So basically what happened here is that a person who would have helped ruin people's lives, got his life snuffed out first. And this is a bad thing how? Because of HOW it happened?

Who here just brought up karma?

Though break smuggling drugs? OK.

Maybe it's time to start shooting those crossing in. Got drugs, deserving. No drugs, too bad but we weren't be sure you didn't.

That might even save the wall building.

It was clear to me that the boy took a little sip and then the agents told him to drink some more.

Methamphetamine is made all over this country in bathtubs and cook houses. This nation is crawling with it. I agree it is a horrible drug but no one is holding a gun to their heads to use it. It is a easy to find as a 12 year old wants cigarettes.

Kid probably lives in abject poverty and is trying to make a living for his family. How can you fault him.

Those officers knew.

No problem I can see. He's smuggling drugs into our country. This should be the fate of all smugglers: Consume your product ... and die.
