Hiring the DHS head for your CHIEF of STAFF

That....That's like hiring an electrician...

To fix your plumbing.

well Kelly seemed to do ok running DHS. He seemed to do very well at running US Southern Command as a 4 star Marine General. i think he is more than qualified to be Chief of Staff.

If the Senate doesnt want to confirm anyone else this summer trump can just do a recess appointment and let Congress confirm his nominee when they come back to break from break.

I don't think anyone cares what the Senate WANTS to do this summer......

Does Trump have a nominee to put before them, or a temporary recess appointment for the Cabinet position of Secretary of Homeland Security? Seems like an important position to leave unfilled.

Unfilled is what happens when the Senate wont confirm people. Maybe Democrats should start coming to hearings instead of blocking them by failing to meet a quorum.

As for DHS you d o understand they all have their own "command staff" if you will. They run with or without a secretary.

This is the fallout from Priebus absolutely failing in the only job he was hired to do: kick the GOP establishment into line behind Trump's plans. Priebus crapped the bed on that time after time and, as a result, there truly was no redeeming reason to retain him in the White House. Kelly's advancement makes a lot of sense. He's less partisan, certainly bringing support from both sides of the aisle who respect his military experience and his pedigree. He was also an assistant to Defense Sec. Leon Panetta, who was Clinton's Chief of Staff beforehand. Panetta was WHCOS during the GOP Congressional "Contract with America" years, arguably the last time Democrats and Republicans really worked together to get great things done... I'm guessing that Trump is hoping Kelly learned a lot from Panetta and brings that knowledge to the position.

It seems that as of NOW, the Cabinet position of Secretary of Homeland Security is vacant, not because of the Senate, but because of Trump.

And the country can be run by the Vice President if the President is unable to perform his duties too, that doesn't make it an optimal situation.

A visit to your urologist may be in order.

In seriousness, I believe a large percentage of the "leaks" have been total fabrications by disreputable "journalists" who make up stories and then put "anonymous sources say" at the end of a few sentences in the stories to cover their asses.

On January 30, 2017, she was nominated by President Donald Trump to become the United States Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security under John F. Kelly. She became acting Secretary of Homeland Security when former secretary Kelly was named White House Chief of Staff on July 28, 2017.
Career

Duke held a consulting practice at Elaine Duke & Associates, LLC in Woodbridge, Virginia.[1]

Duke served as Under Secretary of Homeland Security for Management at the department under both presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama from July 2008 to April 2010.[2][3][4] She has had more than 28 years of experience with the federal government.[5]

Duke's nomination received a hearing before the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on March 8, 2017.[6] On March 15, 2017 her nomination was reported to the United States Senate.[7] On April 4, 2017 she was confirmed by a vote of 85-14.[8]

After John F. Kelly was named White House Chief of Staff on July 28, 2017, Duke was named Acting Secretary of Homeland Security.

Oh yay, another WaPo article making wild ass guesses about Trump! What's WaPo's record so far on all things Trump? A monkey flipping a coin has a more accurate predictive method than what Jeff Bezos' gang has against his sworn enemy, Donald Trump.

Okay, that's the information that I was looking for. Do you have a link?

Whether they do it now or later, the Senate is still going to have to confirm a new DHS Secretary though, and if they choose Duke to replace Kelly permanently, then they're going to have to confirm her replacement too.

That's lot of work to replace the White House Chief of Staff, who is merely appointed by the President, and doesn't need Senate confirmation.

I thought the idea was to have the people rule?

No doubt it was Priebus's job to be an enforcer, but for effs sake...It is not his bad when the POTUS is both a failure as a president and a dictator..

Priebus was a spin-doctor trying to cure terminal cancer.

Priebus was the go-between for a non-establishment Republican POTUS to work with an establishment GOP Congress. He (Priebus) failed. Trump would have been POTUS without Priebus. Priebus was only brought in as an attempt to smooth out differences between the establishment GOP and a president who doesn't agree with their global pandering and liberal tendencies.

Hmmmm...
I am not averse to the people speaking through their employees (AKA Congress - House and Senate)
If Preibus represented a faction that Trump did not appeal to..perhaps a significant portion of the GOP..then I see that as useful.

Bannon is a close ally of Priebus and derided Scarmuchi as a "globalist"..

can you clarify who is a "globalist" and who is not for me?

I know right? It's almost like hiring a #ing community organizer to be president of the US.

Nah, it's far crazier than that. It's like believing that a lying corrupt billionaire globalist crony ever intended to "drain the swamp."
