We've been through this already. It's 150 (ish) years old. We're currently in 2017, not the 1800s.

Also, your source doesn't say anything about protecting secrets.

Mackey is talking about not giving up the modes of recognition, which is what we all have been saying. His vernacular is not the easiest to follow which would explain why the overly paranoid anti-Mason reads that as 'don't tell them we actually worship Satan!!!!'.

Precisely. It's hardly anything nefarious, like the member was implying.

It reads (to me) as "watch what you say (passwords) and watch what you do (handshakes and signs)".

But the text is also outdated. Mainly by language, in my opinion.
