T-90MS Tagil is the latest version of T-90. Has commander's independent hunter killer sight, gunner's thermal sight, advanced ERA, autoloader. More advanced than M1A1 Iraq bought from America. This is the first export of T-90MS Tagil. Iraq being a Shia country like Iran. No doubt Iraq's bigger neighbor had influence in this decision.

The real question is: Will this acquisition pose a threat to American Military interests in the region?

I take you are aware of the Sunni-Shia tensions in the Iran/Iraq war?

Iraq is in the Shia camp. When Shia took Mosul a lot of Sunnis died.

Most of the djihadists groups active in Iraq and Syria are indeed Sunnis.

Iraq is one third Sunni. The problem is the Sunnis and Shias like to brutalise one another.

Anyway. Why does this decision "spite" America? Iraq cannot afford to buy Western/US kit in great quantities. The T90 is perfectly OK for their circumstances and situation, and their budget.

The nerve of those Iraqis. After all we've done for them.

Did the Russians invade their country over a bunch of weapons of mass destruction BS? No, we did!

Was it Russian soldiers going through their cities killing the men, raping the women, committing war crimes, and enforcing curfews? Nope, they couldn't be bothered. We had to do it.

After all the money we spent there, the lives lost or ruined, and the damage to the US reputation world wide, those ungrateful Iraqis have the unmitigated gall to buy weapons elsewhere. That's gratitude for you.

Next time, they can get someone else to invade their country. We'll invade somebody that will appreciate it.

Yes, it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the most expensive version of the T-90 is slightly more than half the cost of an M1A2. Or with the fact that the T-90 will be easier to maintain and train on. This decision is only to spite the US.

All I can say is "Good".

America needs to stop selling arms to countries which have a history of falling apart and landing up all the resources sold them, in the hands of maniacs. So does my country. This situation should be a cause for celebration, not concern.

Tanks are pretty simple to take out as long as there is no significant air defence network in place it can be done in relative safety and from a distance using Predator drones and Hellfire missiles alone. Fling a few A-10s in to the mix and those T-90s will be scrap metal in no time sharp i imagine.

Now when and if Iraq ever manages to replace there air defence system then i would worry as to a threat to American Military interests but i dont see that being allowed to happen in any significant manner, any time soon.

Us sponsored Holy war taking full advantage of religious conflict now claimed to be the reason all along, by the main stream media and Pentagon.

But thats pretty easy, find a holy war thats simmering, add boat loads of weapons and stir.

The real end goal is not democratization, but chaos. Look at Libya, we 'fixed' that place reeel good.

Destabilization means just that.

Could that be why these conflicts seem these be awash with AKs and RPGs and shed loads of Russian kit?

Because this is what happens when an Abrams tank gets hit with a tube launched guided missile, David and Goliath style...

Edit: As opposed to what happens when a T90 got hit ...
The difference being the M1 was penetrated, signified by the jet of flame from the turret from ammunition cooking off... whereas in the T90 the crew is seen bailing, signifying no penetration of the interior.

"Russian Kit" is sold covertly by the west too. To hide the source... but just as telling is the number of western munitions like TOW, Us manufactured Anti Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM) that appear in abundance inside Syria and Iraq. You think those came from Russia?

Not, the US sold them to Saudi Arabia who then covertly transports them inside countries by Proxy...

No. it was struck in the back, less armor, plus the fire may be indicative of rounds being cooked off.

Second, export model, thats a tin can.

Lastly, you showed a video of a russian tank "tanking" a round from the front, of course because its armor is at its strongest.

You didn't show us crap, try again, this time, two different vids that show one tank being hit from the back and one from the front. You might as well labeled them, "This is what happens when you shoot tanks in the back and front"

If you mean the first YouTube video of the M1 being hit, that hit occurred right between the turret and the hull, right where it is supposed to, dosesn't matter the tank is facing away...

"Second" Reply...

M1 Abrahams die many deaths, by IED, their own weight, and anti tank weapons since they have been in theatre(s), myth of invincibility shattered early on, not that the western media covers that much...

Hard to find evidence of that in western media, have to consult the 'other side' videos for any evidence of this. Turn down the sound and enjoy...

I disagree, The ammo compartments blast doors are redirecting that fire upwards, its doing its job. Vulnerable rear armor, nothing to see here that isn't already known.

Ok? what does that have to do with the discussion? I cam easily show you a video of Russian tanks being hit with the same issue.
