I am glad to see that my Government will stop meddling in another countries affairs. I am tired of wars, proxy or otherwise, being fought in my name.

I want peace with all people.

Not sure why they even bother calling it a "covert" program when we've known about it since at least 2012 when The New York Times and others started reporting on the CIA smuggling weapons across the Turkish border to arm anti-government forces in Syria. Also the fact Trump is doing this after launching missiles at Syria a few months ago tells me he doesn't believe Assad poses a great threat and it he's become aware that Assad didn't carry out a chemical attack on his own people, a rebel controlled storehouse was hit and released chemical weapons they were storing.

Trump's response to the "chemical attack" has always looked to me like it was mainly for appearance's sake. Firing some missiles at one airbase really didn't accomplish anything. I don't think Trump ever seriously thought Assad had used chemical weapons; it was just a situation where he needed to respond.

The real question that nobody is willing to ask is, why did the Rebels have a warehouse full of chemical weapons?

I agree completely. You and I are strange birds, advocating for peace with all.

If Trump succeeds with this, I will be surprised. AIPAC and others are going to raise hell about this move.

Shhhh!!! You're not supposed to ask perfectly reasonable questions. Just one causes the entire propaganda narrative to completely collapse.

The power of social engineering is dumbfounding.

When Syria came up a few years ago we collectively, as a nation, said hell-to-tha-no. Don't you anti-Trumpers remember that?

Then the deep state's msm got quiet, the engineers repackaged it, and now we have an appalling percentage of hypno-freaks with full-blown msm-induced amnesia defending the indefensible.

Congrats and thank you President Trump. Now maybe we can at least wipe out the blight of ISIS for real with some U.S./Russia cooperation. We can worry about who gets the pipeline after that.

WELL...

Since he CAN'T lift sanctions

Since he HASN'T given back the SPY compounds

...He DID promise Putin some "deliverables" (HIS WORDS) ahead of the G20 ...

And THIS is something Russia wants...

Wow.

A new low from the already pretty low crowd. You've outdone yourself.

Now disarming terrorists is Russian collusion.

I find it staggering that of all the Syrians I have known and worked with (and it has been a lot) not one of them had a bad thing to say about Assad, for years Damascus was a central trading hub for Jews, Christians and Muslims with no real issues then we have "Assad the lunatic" that outside sources felt "needed" to be removed and all that has happened is a Country that has been flattened, women and children raped and sold as sex slaves.

This is precisely the same way my friend from Aleppo describes how Syria used to be when he grew up there. The entire mantra about Assad being an evil dictator only exists because of the war machine using its MSM to manufacture consent for America and many other countries to fund/arm/train mercenaries to pillage the poor civilian population.

It absolutely makes me sick that so many people are ignorant of these deep state tactics.

Trump just went up a notch in my book!

Truth.

I've met several Syrians here in Canada, who tell me they LOVE Assad, they love Syria, and hate American/Western intervention ane control of conflict.

What I've heard from real conversations, from real Syrians, is opposite of what I see here on ats and MSM.

First, he scraps the Trans Pacific Partnership.

Then, he nixes the Paris carbon tax scam.

Now he stops arming terrorists in Syria.

If he would just shut down the torture camp in Gitmo I'll be an official Trump supporter.

If he audits the Fed I'll buy a Make America Great Again t-shirt.

They never really repackaged it, they just kept blasting the same old line that Assad was an evil monster and no one cared what measures were taken to take him down. I remember years ago when I was heavily involved in the Libya and Syria situation and posted many threads attempting to defend Assad from our MSM assault. It was basically a taboo topic back then to even suggest the US government would be arming potential terrorists and many people found it hard to accept Obama would approve such a thing. And that was on ATS, outside of conspiracy forums it was complete hearsay to defend Assad or Gaddafi in any fashion, our western MSM could never be so misleading... now it seems to be common knowledge that a CIA program is arming rebel groups with extremist connections in order to take down a sovereign government and the rebels are actually the ones using chemical weapons.

Honestly I can not fathom how anyone would criticize such an action, unless they are driven by pure agenda.

Israel. Israel isn't going to like this one bit!

I certainly do. I was one of 'em.

Still am. I could wish that the Kurds weren't going to get the short end of the stick eventually, when the govt. decides they need Turkey to be our pal, again...

Other than that? Let's get the Hell out of the Middle East.

Trump Administration Bombs Nearly As Many Civilians in 6 Months as the Obama Administration Did in 8 Years

I digress, but really... nothing changed, it only got worse and the amount of brainwashing truly is staggering.

Here's a suggestion: end this War with Terror and the CIA, how is that?

There are no "rebels", only religious-fanatic warriors for Allah.

Let's see how the CIA handles this order.

Careful, don't get your hopes up. The Syrian "rebels" (Al-Qaeda/Al-Nusra/ISIS), look as if they're being defeated, but looks can be deceiving. The Establishment can't continue funding the same group under Trump so, they've been re-branded to allow clandestine operations to continue, while fooling the pundits and making Trump look like he took out the bad guy.

Al-Nusra’s Name has been Removed from Terror List after Rebranding

Al-Qaeda removed from Canada & U.S. terror watch-list

It turns out that getting off the U.S.’ and Canada’s terror watchlist is as simple as changing your name. While the terror watchlist in the U.S. has long been both secretive and controversial – as “reasonable suspicion” is enough to label any individual a “terrorist” – terrorist groups tied to al-Qaeda have found that getting off the watchlist only requires minor rebranding, reported Mint Press News.

The terror group, formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra or the al-Nusra Front, has operated as al-Qaeda’s branch in Syria long after Daesh (ISIS) renounced its allegiance to the group in 2014. It was first placed on the U.S. and Canadian terror watchlists in 2012.

Simply by changing its name to Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the group is no longer on terror watchlists in the U.S. or Canada, allowing citizens of those countries to donate money to the group, travel to fight with them and disseminate the group’s propaganda without incident.

You can thank the "Deep State" magicians for the illusion.

...and Canada.

Trump ends covert CIA program to arm anti-Assad rebels in Syria, a move sought by Moscow

Of course, it's the Washington Post, so they're going to obsess over the Russia angle, but I say: WHOOHOO !!! Good move!

The Rebels have shown time & again that they aren't any better than Assad, and in fact many of these groups are affiliated with al Qaida. It's only by comparing them to ISIS that anybody has the nerve to call them "moderate rebels." We should never have gotten involved in Syria in the first place.

Of course, you can now expect a false-flag gas attack in a last-ditch effort to keep US involvement going.

I assume we'll still be involved with the Kurds, altho in all likelyhood we'll leave them to twist in the wind as soon as we decide to patch things up with Turkey.

I don't like TRump, but if he actually stops the military industrial complex from arming and training the militants in this proxy war, I applaud it.

As a liberal, I am so angry that Obama and Clinton rode on a lot of relief after Bush Jr.'s wars, only to start regime change proxy wars in Libya and Syria. :/

Whatever the reason Trump is doing this, it’s the right thing to do. Though, he may be being blackmailed, this is the right policy to beat the band.

Remember when Obama gave up 500 million dollars to train the Syrian rebels and they got all of 5 troops out of it!

The US is now just supporting the Kurds as an excuse to have US troops there ILLEGALY and where their not needed

They just want to destabilize Syria for some real sick reason

In the greater scheme of things this may be the reason Trump was allowed to win

It supports world peace and gives a break to the Syrian people and in the end save American young peoples lives

And that's a good thing!

This is awesome. Great move by President Trump.

Now, the only problem I see is that is very likely that the Obama administration probably foresaw that something like this would happen and set up some "black op" program, under some other name, to continue arming "the rebels".

Remember that one of the main people behind all this, among others is Soros. Soros, and his "evil compadres" want chaos in the Middle East, and for that chaos to spill into western civilization. Let's hope the Trump administration is able to catch these people and shut down their "back up programs".

To me it seems unlikely that President Trump will stop all aid to the "rebels (wink ISIS/Daesh), since Trump can only affect, in some ways, programs started by the U.S. But the globalists have control of other nations, such as the EU, and they will continue similar "black ops programs" to arm the extremists, i mean the "rebels".
