Definitely know Husker Du (since that's an old Bob Mould project).

I haven't heard of the others, lol.

I found a rather cool, and weird 60s compilation called Psychedelic Microdots, and a couple of amazing songs (to me) are by a band called First Crow to the Moon:

Spend Your Life:

We Walk the Rain:

As far as odd bands only *I* have heard, well...Once while on vacation in Florida in the late 80s I found a cassette by a band called "The Pink Yak."

In high school, a guy I knew had an industrial/electronic project called "Vertical 8" (a play on Nine Inch Nails).

I should probably digitize those two cassettes and upload them.

And then there's Universus

Very few people are familiar with some of the stuff I have in my music collections.

They may sort of, kind of remember the song on the radio from years ago but had no idea who the band was.

80's Hardcore Band from Seattle: The Fartz (I knew the drummer) WIKI

You want odd & obscure? Well...

This is from a local punk band circa 1990 called Belinda Carbuncle. Don't let the 'punk' bit put you off - it's just a very unusual, and fun song - but does contain some mild swearing at the end, so be warned! There's no video, just a link to a WMV file. I've included the lyrics too!

Seriously - give it a try!

Song about being an alien

Hello - I'm an alien! My name is Zit.
Here's 3 zogras, I'll have a pint of best please.
Everything starts with z on our planet cos we're aliens.
The best thing about being an alien is having two willies and the worst thing is having to keep stopping off in cornfields to empty both bladders.
I like your earth girls, they give me the horns. Nice bums. All the girls on planet Zthsormbviwojgfwxdippglvnyxmidvku look like Moira Stewart and they are perpetually miserable. They've got farty breath.
I wish I was a librarian in a big checked shirt like Rory Gallagher wore when he got bigger and his mate had to stamp on his head.
I met Buz today. I learnt many useful everyday phrases. Funbags! Oooh Matron! Oi oi saveloy! Soapy tit wank! # off you're #!
I wrote a poem, it goes like this...
Roses are red, Violets are blue,
I'm going to sneeze, Achooo!
It's not very good is it?
But I'm only a fukkin alien.

One I listen to every once in a while...released in 1972, progressive for that time...not much of a video, just the lyrics, but tells the story.

Info...from wiki

The concept for 666 was created by Vangelis and film director Costas Ferris, who served as the project's lyricist. Ferris cited as influences the nonlinear narrative style of films Intolerance, Rashomon, Citizen Kane and The Killing, as well as The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and The Who's Tommy.[1] The central concept is a countercultural interpretation of the Book of Revelation, in which a circus show based on the apocalypse performs for an audience at the same time that the real apocalypse takes place outside the circus tent, and at the end the two merge into one.[1] Ferris described the result as a "concept book", and stated that he intended for the narration to be looser than Tommy, but more rigid than Sgt. Pepper.[1]

Back in 1984 I was in a band and we have narrowed down our choices of a name to 2:
Syzygy or Died Pretty.
We went with Syzygy.

Bands not many have heard of:
Fester (punk)
Voodoo Fishermen (zappa-esque)
Mr.Bungle
Weedeater (mo punk)
Buzzoven (industrial punk)

I discovered this one completely by accident - Band's name is called "Faun"

This is one of their songs that has a good beat.

Also, apparently this group isn't too common up here, but I fell in love with this song:

All great bands!

Did you catch Martin Atkins, Chris Connelly, Geordie Walker and Jah Wobble's side project The Damage Manual?
