You cannot compare people that were wrongfully persecuted (Jews) to deranged predators such as pedophiles.
They do not deserve compassion.

There's a bit of tech ignorance here. You can't go find the name and location of these users, at least as long as they're not a complete moron.
People don't use any identifying information, everything is fabricated. Server logs would have the IP of a tor router, not the individual. That's the whole point of TOR, to anonymously transfer information. You would need control of the exit node for individual users to get them all, and then you'd have to be looking for specific acts happening.
The only people being busted is the owner, and the few morons who gave identifying information. I can't believe the guy actually used his own server at his physical location? Not bright at all.

With TOR, doesn't the person who controls the nodes control the data or something like that? I use it every day, but can't for the life of me remember.
Rev
I think only the first node knows the user's IP address, and only the last node knows what site the user is looking at, but there are ways to find more about the users.
Someone running an exit node can see the unencrypted data, like user names.
Theres a conspiracy that Tor has a backdoor used by the CIA. Probably just a rumour to prevent people diving in to something thats unpolicable... who knows whats true?

Not even the darknet want to deal with these people. They'll blacklist anyone who tries to put up links to these sites. Then the only way to put up a website like that would be to have a server at home, and have the details passed on by mouth-to-mouth reference.

The FBI did take down a network that was operating through Tor. They got the webpage to send some JavaScript to the remote web browser, snarf the IP address and send it back to the network server.

Practically every TOR browser warns against scripts and has buttons to easily disable JavaScript on sites.
The main suspect, a 39-year-old German national, was identified and arrested after several months of painstaking investigation. He is suspected of operating the platform, providing the technical infrastructure for it to operate.
Another arrestee, a 61-year-old individual from Bavaria, is suspected of the production and dissemination of child abuse material. In addition, he is suspected of the sexual abuse of two children aged 5 and 7 years. The victims are the children of an Austrian forum member.
An additional arrestee, a 56-year-old individual from Baden-Württemberg, was arrested under the suspicion of being the moderator of the forums of the platform and the chat groups.
In Austria, a 28 year-old individual was arrested. He is suspected of having participated in the dissemination of child abuse material, of having severely sexually abused his two children for years and facilitated the sexual abuse of his children by the above suspects.
Further arrests are to be expected shortly in Germany, as well as in other European and non-European countries. To date, a total of 14 suspects have been arrested, among which 12 are suspected of having actively taken part in the abuse of children.

There are many ways of getting people's IP addresses, if they are not careful, that's one of the reasons producers are harder to catch, as they are more careful.
Once law enforcement agencies get control of a server everything is easier, like in those cases.
From what I could find, in this case the server operator did not collaborate with the police, so they couldn't keep on using the server to get more information about the users.
