How could it be "free" if the public funds the government?

No one would want to be in those professions. Service and quality levels would fall dramatically.

Our taxes would increase and the quality of services would decrease.

You do know the government gets its money from the "public" right?

So your proposal is, we the people, pay the government, to pay the doctors, to give is free care? #ing brilliant!

Not a good idea. Government can't "fix" anything without breaking it beyond repair.

Let government rule over as little as possible. Putting it in charge of vital services is like handing over the keys of a motorcycle to a 5 year old.

We already dont need them...Google and your common sense are always available 24/7/365.

My Doctors all have computers in their offices and if they didnt I would not go see them....same sites I use at home.

If that were to happen, it would mean we're a fully communist country. If the top wage earners are payed by the government, it will be because all other wage earners are too. We would all drive the same kind of car, wear the same kind of clothes and stand in line for hours for a roll of toilet paper.

One has to be over 40 to remember that such a model of government once existed.

That's what the UK does. Doctors and dentists are employed by the NHS. But because the NHS restricts what services a dentist can offer, many have gone into the private sector. They could make more money doing cosmetic and preventative treatments that just drilling and filling in the NHS. Nurses have become contract/supply workers because they make more money.

Why should our tax dollars pay very high salaries to these people. A lot of the doctors make millions a year. A lot of lawyers make multimillions a year. The only way that would work is if they limited the salaries of these people to a reasonable rate which would be based off of their experience. Their college could be paid and their salary starting at say seventy five grand a year then rising up to maybe a hundred and thirty to fifty grand a year based on their specialty and bonuses for fixing people quicker.

Sure...common sense and Goggle. The first place I go when I need a Doctor is You Tube. WaHoo9 has a wonderful video on how to do an appendectomy. And when I need a lawyer, I turn to Duperstation 14 and Gerald's Dairies for advice on how to make the Illinois Lottery pay out my winning Power Ball ticket which they say they can't pay because they are broke so the ticket is null and void. Common sense and Google to the rescue.

The question we should ask is "what would happen if money was removed from society and people were expected to work solely for the good of others and to live a humble life"...

The answer to this will explain why our planetary society is such a damn mess.

Get real everyone.....Doctors are no more worthy than Plumbers.....education was always a tool used to control the masses first by denial then by global curricular machinations.....

In the olden days......if you had a photographic type MEMORY aiding diagnosis and treatment dataholds....you made a much better Doctor and were worth more than others......Google has negated this historic advantage some have always had.

I diagnose my own illnesses before I go to the doctor now....and we compare notes...online.....in the office......we both follow the Harvard textbook diagnostic procedures and protocals while online.....

I diagnose and repair my own cars now....using online videos.....sooooo easy.

Doctors get money because they are licensed and insured to dispense pharmacuticals....if we had free uncontrolled acess to medicines outside of a Drs. orders....many would not even go to the doctor for many issues.

www.youtube.com...

Keep your hands clean and instruments sharp your hands steady and your stitches true.

You could learn it from a book ....but videos are so much quicker....I think I and anyone motivated could follow directions with most things and quickly learn to become accustomed to the details.

Monkey see Mokey do....there are expert tutorials on everything online and much better example to be found than this one I posted.

If you want to see how great this would be go ask anybody charged with a serious crime how well their public defender worked out for them...

The free market is what sets compensation. There are lawyers who barely make $35k/yr and others who make many millions. There are doctors who make like $150k/yr and there are those who make millions. This is the same for any profession or job. It is all supply and demand. The free market tends to produce the highest levels of service and price on average due to competition.

Things must be very different in the US than they are in the UK. We have seen all kinds of public sector services contracted out to the private sector, and there has not been one. instance of an improved service. In fact in a great many cases the quality of service has decreased and become more costly.

Don't get me wrong I am no socialist, but what has really pissed me and everyone else off about the great privatisation experiment, is that the promised reduction to the overall taxpayer's burden never materialised. Doctor's are state funded here and at the point of delivery most healthcare is free. You can opt to pay for private treatment if you want. As for lawyers, I rate them alongside politicians and dog faeces, and believe the world would be a better place without them.
