Again, keep your gold because I'll tell you to # off off if you want one of my hens.
I'm pleased you like your gold, but you can't eat it lol.

Why do you feel the need to post that opinion over and over. We get it but, the fact still remains that not everyone thinks like you, which makes your claim that gold will be worthless incorrect.

Is that so difficult to understand?

Because I started a thread and wanted interested mature conversation.

We get it but
Who is 'we' ?

What? 3 or so people disagree and that is the deciding factor? LMAO, try again.

Is that so difficult to understand?
Nope, understood completely, you are crying because you want your opinion to be right lol. Tragic but funny as #.

Simple repeating the same thing over and over isn't quite what you say you wanted.

Who is 'we' ?

Anyone reading that you will not trade anything for gold. It is a simple enough idea that I'm sure anyone can understand.

Yes. You spoke in absolutes. Even 1 makes it false.

Nobody is crying.

I'm pointing out that your opinion isn't universal, which should be obvious.

That is actually the mature conversation that you claim to want but somehow it doesn't seem like that is what you really want. Oh well.

Are you just trolling me?
Your arguments are poor.

No they are not.

Logic dictates that if you say "nobody will want gold" and even 1 person wants it then your statement is false.

You have 3 in this thread and who knows how many in the real world.

Also there is nothing poor about arguing that not everyone thinks like you. Can you prove that this isn't true?

So you won't value gold over a hen, or water? Cool. Probably wise. However, there will certainly be people who will. Gold has value outside of monetary to the right people.

It doesn't take long to figure out what those values are, either. So it'll never be worthless.

In a scenario such as this one that you posit, it'll pay to know your market.

If I by some strange circumstance show up at your door, I won't use gold to barter, I'll use something else. That may not be the case at another's door.

Candles. Eggs. Plantings/Seeds. Chickens. Oxen (easier to work with than horses, or so I'm told.). Bullets/Powder. Arrows. Guns. Bows. Gold. Silver. Any metal actually.

Almost anything can be, and will be, used as barter. Knowing how to repair stuff will be amazingly salable, or being able to build/repair your chicken coop.

Uses of Gold.

As you can see, the uses to which gold can be put are many.

I won't need your help repairing your chicken coop.
Carry on hoarding your gold though.

Where did I say I was "hoarding" gold? Please, point it out to me...

I do believe I said others may find it of use, and would accept it in trade. If that constitutes "hoarding", so be it.

Gold has uses, as I pointed out, that go beyond it merely being shiny.

Gold is used in medical procedures as it's hypoallergenic. Fillings and such.

Hoarding... Really.

I didn't make the statement that you were hoarding gold, it was a suggestion based on the assumption you like your gold.
If you aren't a gold hoarder then I offer my apologies.
I'd # gold off though, food/water/medicine will be more useful to me in hunger situations.
Keep your gold which is useless to me.

Seems to be part of the "hypothetical".

1. Solar flare kills all electronics all over the world.

2. Humanity goes back to the stone age instead of the mid 19th century, when we started using electricity.

3. The solar flare makes everyone think like InceyWincey and just hate gold or InceyWincey will have the only trading post in the world. (Hyperbole if isn't obvious)

4. Anyone caught will any amount of gold will be guilty of hoarding and will get no chickens or cans of tuna.

From real accounts of SHTF situations, the problem with gold is that people will kill you to get it.

So maybe a discrete deal with a farmer is necessary.

FerFal has a lot of good information, having been there and done all that.

Mmmm...Tuna!! I'll give you a dozen candles for three cans of tuna!!

In a TEOTWAWKI situation, almost anything will be taken in trade. So it would behoove a wise trader/tinker to have as much of everything in his or her pack, or on his or her pack mule/beast, as possible.

Up to, and including a bit of gold. I'm sure a dentist somewhere would find it useful. Someone may be able to repair a generator, which gold wire would be, without a doubt, extremely useful.

Jewelry, because survival isn't always serious business. For good mental health, one needs to be able to have fun...and what's more fun than giving your significant other jewelry, a necklace.

That would imply that it has value and that doesn't fit with the hypothetical in the OP.

That is true enough. Discretion is advised. Very much agree there.

But, if they're going to attempt to kill you, notice I said attempt--after all I'm the second coming of RAMBO!!! Grrr!!!
, they're probably going to come after you for your chickens, too.

Why did you snip the part in parentheses which states that it was hyperbole?

In case you didn't catch the meaning, you are not the only one who people will be able to trade with so who cares what you think you will trade for in a hypothetical.

Oh, that goes without saying.

Think New Orleans after the hurricane, and you'll about have it. Only over a much larger area.

I also happen to think that most people overestimate just how nasty other people will be. Yeah, there will be looters, 'cause morons will never ever die out, but most people will help their neighbors, and in return will be helped. They'll band together for mutual support.
