The son of a good friend has recently become part of the "pop machine", recently signed by one of the majors and being groomed for a place in the spotlight. You would not believe how he has been contorted and compromised artistically for this "opportunity". His original material is long gone and he's busy cranking out whatever they want that fits their format. It's a shame because he really had something a bit distinctive, hell it's what got him noticed in the first place. I just hope he gets his chance and doesn't get flushed before it happens. His parents are thrilled and always asking my opinion, which is getting harder and harder to give. I just hope he does alright.

Until her contract is up she is basically studio property that has to be an image and voice for what she no longer owns.

Maybe she doesn't have such a contract or maybe she was able to buy herself out of it or have creative control... who knows?

A facade a temporary expensive apartment that once one cannot pay it back from those contractual agreements? Toast... otherwise it is perpetual working to take back one's voice, face and creative control over their life out of slavery to the machine that sold so many others before into the dream.

Fortunately with the internet youth can skip all of that... and of course like any control freak? Those standing to lose the most? Out of such enterprises lobby hard to keep the truth hidden and the slaves chains bound round and round.

Well, I'll try and be optimistic and say in any industry you have your dark sides and good sides. Not everyone ends up a Katy Perry or Jessica Simpson. There are some who do make a decent career out of it.....I think.

But as for his original artistic expression, that is toast. Fortunately his talent can't be taken away from him but he has no permission to use that talent the way he sees fit. It's a sacrifice for the bright lights.

I know a couple bros in the underground hip hop scene in Oceanside Ca. I hear their stuff and think, damn that's what should be on the radio. I was never into hip hop before I met them, mostly because I never heard it the way that they perform it, with such passion and raw expression. I see it now as a true art form and have much respect for thier incredible talent, even though they may never be in the top 40.

Her song Chained To The Rhythm seems to contradict this. It's mostly about how people are drones. But because it's said over a club beat, the message falls on deaf ears of people who listen to music all wrong

I think that it has become a media mainstream tendency to lead pop culture into occultism/ demomism.
IMHO these are symptoms of our declined capitalistic system.
I remember this trend began in the early 90s and there only was the X-files.
