It isn't going to be any more energy than used to power the transmitter (like how a FM radio station or microwave tower is in kilowatts of power), but they can now pulse and shape the transmitted signal so that more goes straight to the satellite in a pulse rather than going off in sideways directions all the time.

Photons are emitted by electrons. When you apply a magnetic field around electrons, their orbitals become constrained to a standing wave pattern until the probability that an electron is at any point becomes 1.0, at which time a photon is given off. This effectively keeps the electrons locked up until they are released.

This is the quote I was searching for but the "View all post in thread" (source) does not have a pin for the actual page. This is from the great, "Weird California Sighting" thread in the Aircraft Projects forum.

The "it" being tipped nose down in the quote is a BBT (supposedly). At the time, people went, "Huh?" but now you can see with this announcement that it most likely had been figured out for Military purposes. Seems you're spot on with your statement.

They are using a magnetic field to hold the electromagnetic wave (light) in a container called a "resonant wave guide". It can be stored and released on demand with no degradation to the original wave. When they first made resonant wave guides 100 years ago, they thought they had a limit. Somebody (Lorentz) used Maxwell's equation to set that limit. The announcement is there is not a limit as previously thought.

My 10 cents:

I would think that the requirements for the containing magnetic field would be exponentially more than the energy stored in the resonant waveform.

Also, if you were to integrate the waveform over time, to build up the amplitude (as occurs in a laser), there would be an issue of permeability of the magnetic field. You'd have to get through it somehow without releasing the trapped waveform.

So, weapons applications are limited.

And, the presence of a small building size MRI style magnetic array might possibly ruin any semblance of stealth.

So no practical invisibility either.

None the less, it a big thing in physics.
