Solving "The Grandfather Paradox" In Time Travel

A subject much adored by literature, films, scientists, inventors and people like ourselves.

I always see the "Grandfather Paradox" as something referenced when people try and prove the impossibility of time travel, or at least time travel in the sense that most people think (Traveling back in time, in your own universe/timeline).

The Paradox is simple and it goes like this...

If you go back in time and you exist like any other person in that time, and kill your grandfather before he had your father, you would cease to exist, therefore you couldn't have traveled back in time since you never existed in the first place.

This is where things get tricky and people play around with ideas like split timelines etc.

Stephen Hawking on the other hand believes in alternate universes. His thought is that you can go back and change things, it would just be in a universe entirely its own as you would not me able to go back in time in your own universe.

What if, time travel back in our own universe in our own timelines is completely possible, and the answer is much more simple?

What if time is truly and wholly linear. What I mean by this is... think in terms of fate per se, and it being real. Think about it in respect to events being predetermined to an extent based on cause and effect of all prior actions combined (even on a subatomic level).

What im saying is, if we built a time machine... and you tried to go back in time, and kill your father.. you simply wouldn't be able to so.. because of the fact that you exist. In essence, back before you were born and your father was around.. (if you traveled back in time) you were there in that environment, you had already tried and failed. The result was predetermined.

What Im saying is that the concept of time travel works if simply everything you were going to do is exactly what happened in the past to begin with, because in the first iterations on the past you had already come from the future and those actions formed your reality of today.

Which time is the current time? Now or the past?

What if the past is it's own entity, independent from our current state? So if you went back and killed your grandfather it wouldn't matter, because the events that produced you have already happened in our current reality.

I guess that would go into the alternate universe theory that Hawking was talking about.

Time travel not possible, about all there is to it. We can travel slower thru time relative to an observer, thats the extent of it.

Much too much in my life has been predetermined via dreams and premonitons and just plain 'knowings' from a young age. So is that one time line or intersecting time lines. I believe there is ancestral memory but does that memory come from ancestors or an intersecting timeline. So much to contemplate. Thanks for the thread.

Time is linear, plain and simple. We know what a nanosecond is and how to measure it. The LHC shoots a mini Cooper at the speed of light....does it separate from one time/speed from the rest of it's encasement or the near vicinity? MPH, SOS, SOL, FTL, is just a different speedometer. It does not change physically, nor move in time...

What? Haven't you heard the latest theory on Time? It doesn't exist now. I think we will have to call what you are talking about something else that doesn't have the word time in it. I don't know. Maybe call it Frequency Hopping.

in a great book (Le voyageur imprudent (the imprudent/foolhardy traveller)), René Barjavel describes a group of people capable of time travelling.
One of them wants to test this grandfather paradox and go back in time, actually in war time, to try and kill his grandfather.
While aiming at his grandfather, the man receives a bullet and dies.
In Barjavel's book, fate is "protecting" the grandfather paradox, by preventing the grandson to kill his grandfather.
Very nice book, as all books from Barjavel by the way.

If time worked and everthing is predetermined we would see evidence of that occurring. As it is what we learned is the universe seems to be very random. In other words if it can happen it will happen.

Not to mention if time travel worked like you claim we would all ready have proof of time travel. It would be all over in our history. And time travelers would rule the world.

I guess my question back to you is, how do you know they havent been all over our history?

If I went back in time I would assuredly try to conform and adapt as to not draw attention. Remember if you go back in time you have no one to vouch for you, no identification, and quite possibly less of a social understanding of society and how it works in that time period. You would try and blend in.

Then again there are dozens of photos from the past of people that look out of place, wearing clothes that dont seem to match the time period, or possibly holding/using electronics that havent been invented yet.

Time travel. How do you end up back on Earth when it's gravity hub has traveled millions of miles through space?

Maybe that's how it works. Taking shortcuts through the spiral,and convincing everyone you are from the future, not the past. .?

So yeah Time travel only works with FE (fixed earth) or you will end up in space.
