At some point we will either become a spacefaring civilization or we will face our end here on Earth. How soon that may be is anyone's guess but at some point it must happen. Most likely we will have orbiting space stations in low or high earth orbit to begin with and that's where this experiment would begin. Children will be concieved and born in space which means lower than earth gravity. What will those children look like from a body make up point of view. Will their bone density be the same as someone born on Earth? One would assume they would be better suited to that environment or not develop as a fetus at all. If they did survive would they be unable to live on solid ground? Then you throw the moon and Mars in the mix and we may be talking about the point in which the human race become alien and incompatible with their forefathers and a new species in and of themselves.

Will mankind actually create the first alien species we encounter?

Women are quite fancy about "where their baby is made". So this might turn a profitable business, especially after the ice cap melts and Venice is gone drinking coffee with aunt Atlantis...

No.

We'll kill ourselves before that ever happens. Just look at the direction we've been heading.

I feel like getting into a good "groove" could be tricky in a no gravity environment... I'll gladly try, but I wonder how well I'll execute... lol

If that doesn't happen, and it's a big if, we could be a few hundred years from a war among the solar system between 3 different species.

Can´t really stay in space that long before serious problems arise with being human. Something to do with the spinal fluid slowly seeping into the brain... i think..,.

I was just thinking about this last night, about how if in 0 degree gravity would we age the same, would a child even grow?

I would think some astronauts have already done this...
If not by free will, then as a experiment, to see if sperm even work in free falling mode

One of the first porno's I ever watched was some cheesy early 80's flick where they did the nasty in zero-g.

Realistically though, I don't think a child conceived, carried and birthed in zero-g would turnout ok. Almost guaranteed to be blind. 80% of all astronauts serving prolong stays on the ISS end up losing a good bit of their eyesight. One guy went from 20/20 to 20/100. Not to mention muscle loss and memory issues as well. We're earthlings, not spaclings.

I volunteer. At my age, I did it almost everywhere.

Can you imagine how it would be to have semen floating all over in the spacecraft getting stuck to things.

Think of space as a medium of transport--not a destination. If we can get to Mars with as little time in actual space as possible, we'll be fine. We don't want to live in space any more than we want to live on a freeway. Both are dangerous areas. But if we can create a sustainable colony on Mars, the species will be fine. Of course, we also need to get out of this solar system, but one step at a time. To the pessimists of every stripe--you're part of the problem, not the solution. Just get out of the way.
