It's a metaphor, a riddle... Not an actual plant.

Right, one could swim to the bottom of the sea about as well as getting to the tree of life guarded by supermen with blazing swords.

And in the story Dude does actually drop the plant after being bitten by a........serpent.

it's not about finding a magic plant it's about understanding DNA coding.

Magic ?
without doubt immortality is not Magic
it is natural science

Know my Son, that our Stone is naturall, for many reasons; first it is naturall because nature in the like manner makes man and woman as the wise may know, but the unwise doth not understand this. Secondly it is called naturall by Hermes the father of all Naturalists, a man who is to bee beleived. Thirdly the medicine is found naturally, the things which are under the Circle of the Moone being foure elements. And therefore our Stone is joyned together by the 4 elements, and among the 4 elements one is cold, another drye, some warme, some moist. The Scholar here saith, Then our Stone is cold, moist, dry and hot. The Master answeres: Understand plainly. The Seven planets are Stones. Mercury is warm and dry because of the Sunne, cold and moist because of the Moone, for he is of the nature of water, of aire, of earth and of Fire. Therefore he is as the thing to which you joined him, Good with the good, and bad with the bad, which makes Aristotle say, when thou hast Water out of the aire, and aire out of the fire, and fire out of the earth (open thy eares and understand the sayings of the wise) Then thou hast the whole Art.

Relating to secular history, Homer informs us that Prince Nestor, son of Neli, was nearly 300 years old when he came to the aid of the Greeks against the Trojans. Anacreon assures us that Arganthemius, king of the Tartessos was 150 years; Cinirus, king of Cyprus, lived to 100 years; and Aeginius, to 200 years. Petrus Maffeus, in his Indian history, testified that in Bengal an ordinary an was found, who had neither science nor erudition, who was 355 years old, and as proof thereof he related everything from memory that had happened in his lifetime, and which was quite in accord with the chronicles.

The great Seneca, a Spaniard by birth, reached 44 years of age and would without doubt have become much older if his cruel and unjust disciple Nero had not cut the thread of his life. Under the Emperor Trajan, Simon Cleophe, Bishop of Jerusalem, was crucified at the age of 120 years old; St Anthony, Bishop of Egypt was 150; and Cronius, his collaborator, 155. Emperor Claudius, after sufficiently examining the age of the Bolognese Titus Fullonius, finally found that he had been 150 years old. The Hun King Attila died in the 124th year of his life. Petrus de Natalibus asserts that St Severinus, Bishop of Tongres, reached 375 years of age and was ordained Bishop in his 197th year. Nicolaus de Comitatibus certifies that among the Bracmanniers there had been one of 300 years.

That looks more like the version they represented and it is also in a sense a solar symbol, as heat is also a factor in the creation of life emerging from the waters, and this is a cult of the warm waters of the Persian Gulf.

These representations of Enki and Ninhursag creating primeval life should be better known and considered, the basis for this is always seen as the divided square Field measure as symbolized by the Pegasus square thus representing the organic basis of nutrients, the sub-division of the elements, life emerges from within that like it's a sort of Jack in a Box, and were the Field is understood as set within the waters of the Abzu.

The singular dot for the eye represents consciousness/illumination, sentient life, the progression from the plant.

A human like creature is also seen to emerge from that same Jack in a Box as would all creatures be understood to emerge from it, the horns represent dynamic nature/force.

The sea serpent itself in it's relationship to the Pegasus square would be represented by the constellation Cetus, and were the deer also often seen would be Andromeda, which represented the creature with soul, also within this context is the early basis for the upward ascending tree of life planted within the Field, that extends from Pegasus to Sirius, the raising of that standard by Enki and Ninhursag.
