A RECKONING

This weight lay heavy upon my mind
Desperate acts not befitting mankind
That which we do
That which it does
The majesty
The horror
Never again shall be as it was
Damn mine eyes for all they see
With lids shut tight to all around me
The daring
The hubris
False prophets riddled with contemptuous pride
Obsessing
And caressing
Self-indulgent egos
While hiding inside
Ours is the fault
Ours is the blame
Multitudes shall perish
I must live with this shame
None shall be victorious
The madness is far spread
Infesting the hearts of humanity
All decaying with dread
I do this for the days
So long far away
After this death
This senseless decay
These horrid men
Stripes
Stars
Beating their drums
To know them is to quote the Bard
Something Wicked This Way Comes
Go forth my progeny
Dark child of Light
Obey these fools
End this fight
Show them your fury
Make them fear to the core
That none shall ever again see your face
Nevermore ...

Hey UncleSoze!

Loved it! I'm a sucker for a good rhyme.

Nice how you worked Shakespeare into it too, lol.

S&F (Good luck in the contest!)

Sometimes I come across some writing, and I read. What I read does not often, make me feel.
Thank you.

I'm a sucker for poetry and song lyrics.
Your poem is fantastic and I sort of banged a series of broken up beats on the desk while reading along the third time.
