Gritting his teeth, Jacoby loaded the last crate. His body tired from the long day; or had it been two? No matter, rest was on the
immediate horizon. The pickup started and sped off. To where, he didn't care. This would be the his last evening with his family. It took a few
months to reconcile that notion and it had been for the better.
Jacoby's wife was in the den with Mahk, their boy, barely two years old. He has no idea what is coming or what is to be. Miranda, his wife ran the
boys toy cars around the floor with Mahks in tow. In this moment they were so happy, so oblivious. As Jacoby opened the door they both looked up.
Mahk went running screaming "Dadeee, Daaadeee!"
Miranda giggled and gleamed. Such a sight that warmed her heart. "Are you home for the weekend now?"
"Yes, we've got the whole weekend darlin'!"
"Good, I've got the most amazing dinner planned for us tomorrow night," Miranda replied.
Internally, Mahk was trying to keep it all together. He knew they wouldn't make it to that dinner. Fact is, he hadn't told anyone of the strike that
would annihilate the eastern seaboard. All the defenses were spent during the last attempt. "Few hours left," he thought.
He brought Miranda and Mahk into the living room. Set them down and drew them in close. Watching the news, you would never be able to tell that the
apocalypse loomed on the horizon. Glancing back to the window, he saw it. A brief flash. He smiled. "You're early," he thought. Then darkness.
Internally, Mahk was trying to keep it all together. He knew they wouldn't make it to that dinner.

I always enjoy a story that touches me emotionally.
People need a doll to find out where mine did that.

Hi JinMI!
Sheez, that got sad really fast. I'm glad the rest of the family didn't know what was coming...pretty heart breaking!
I'm surprised that you don't have your 'writer' status yet. Maybe this time!
