Boston's First Night, waiting on the Common for buildings to start falling. How disappointing, some Millennium Bug!

Hiding out in a converted basement in Seattle. Our host was blaring Metallica's "Whiskey in a Jar" and various punk rock covers of the "Beer Barrel Polka" and the backdoor was open so we could view the fireworks over Lake Washington. There may (or may not) have been drugs involved. But there was most definitely beer. Lots of beer.

Me and my Darlin' were at a Caribbean bar down tha road, and there was a Soca band playing. Well. "Band" isn't really true. There were two guys -- one a keyboard player, and the other a singer -- and they used backing tracks to great advantage and we got tanked to various Soca tunes.

The week prior to that, we'd renewed our stocks and bought four cases of whiskey, four of rum, and several cartons of cigarettes. Since then, we've both quit smoking. You know what? Even though the end times didn't occur, we still managed to trade those cartons of smokes for things that had more value.

We had 6700 gallons of water in two cisterns. Mind, we didn't think that anything would happen, but I've always been an admirer of Clauswitz, and therefore we were prepared. We had 250 Imperial gallons of petrol stored. We had enough food to sustain the two of us for two years. Still do. FIFO.

it`s sad and pathetic that you were in a IRC chat room on new years eve 1999 but even more sad and pathetic that you still remember it.

was that like a high point in your life, or something?

I know not to feed trolls but on the off chance it's not. I fully admit it's sad and pathetic, as for a high point no not in the least. That would be finishing my degree, getting married, and helping deliver my three children into the world, being the first person they ever felt. remember it because of the date itself. It marked for me and a lot of others as the start of something new. It was our century and everyone had high hopes. Look at the progress we've made good or bad, but I'm ranting.

At home with hubby and our 2 daughters, they were just little kiddies then.We had a bbq or cooked a fave dish like we always do on NY eve, usually i make savory rice and my hubby does the prawns. One thing i remember clearly is our Great Dane, Gary, that we had back then, running around excitedly barking at the fireworks and crackers,he was not afraid but excited strangely enough,he seemed to like it.We had to put him inside eventually, too much excitement. Then he spent the rest of the time scratching at the door to get back out but we reckoned he had enough for one night.

That night also brought us the Fox Terrier we would have for the next 16 years.Shania had to be put down few months ago from old age.The kids found her lost roaming the streets. We took her in.Few days later the woman whose son's dog it was, came to our house and said the dog got out on NY eve and if i give her a hundred bucks i could just keep her, which i did.We were all with her when she was euthanised. That was so heartbreaking even the vet was in tears.

So my memories of Y2K NY centers on dogs, not much else.

I was at home with my boyfriend and our friends. We made homemade pizza and I had my first taste of tequila that night! We had a blast! My favorite was the Eiffel Tower celebration of the new millennium. It was beautiful!

We had pizza, all kinds of drinks even non alcohol and we played board games, just the 4 of us.

I was at a party at my house with wife and all my close friends.
Coal fire burning, hundreds of £'s of alcohol in the kitchen, other intoxicating substances, and hard trance playing loud from the decks.
Partied through until about noon the next day then slept for a few hours until Grandma and Grandad brought our two year old back lol
