My favorite movies/series to watch are from the Medieval era in
British History.

An excellent cast made me review this one.

Cinema can't seem to get King Arthur right, but I do recommend the lighthearted Disney classic The sword in the stone or Monty Python and the holy grail.

I've never seen the 2017 movie but I do know it bombed big time, it was a 'Royal' screw up if reviews and box office are to be believed. Why can't movie makers get English folklore right? That Robin Hood movie with Russel Crowe was awful, the TV adaptations of Merlin were just...ewww.

The biggest problem is directors are addicted to dark and gritty re-imaginings.

Monty Python indeed, funniest entry. I don't know about cartoons...

Excalibur gets my vote. Even though the legend is just that, mythos. Every good sword and sorcerer film has the same western theme variation, even Star Wars.

Hero, bad guy, princess, sword and evil empire.

The older you get the more redundant the time worn theme becomes.

It's not quite the best one. I can't stand Richard Gere in the casting. However, I really like the Prince Malagant character. And there's one exchange in the dialog that think is really good:

Your dress is quite spoiled.
You ...
... almost ...
... a queen.
Ralph. Did you do this?
- Yes, My Prince.|- You see?
This is|what Arthur doesn't understand.
Men don't want brotherhood.|they want leadership.

This idea of a fellowship of equals versus authoritarianism I believe has been a principle struggle of humanity for ages.

It's historically accurate for the most part in terms of the way people fought and behaved. The battle between paganism and Christianity is superb. It's just so good I can't stand it. In many ways I like it better than Game of Thrones in this genre.

Yeah, I was disappointed to see that this movie did not do well in the box office.
That's what happens when you release it at the wrong time.
Same time as Alien, and a couple other big movies.

It stinks because Charlie Hunnam is a Reeealy good actor. He just can't seem to find the right movie.

I haven't seen this one yet, but I did see the The Lost City of Z. He was great in that movie. Everyone was. It was just a boring movie.
Crimson Peak was not a good role for him either.
I will say, that he has done a great job of not getting typecasted after so long on SOA.

If this isn't your style, perhaps Gwain the Green Knight .. --- joking. 'I can't imagine them doing a remake of that one'.

Anyway, It's more a myth and so I'll wait and see. Sometimes the reviews are far off reality.

Took my wife on our anniversary. It was like a mash-up between Arthurian legend, Peter Jackson LOTR, The Matrix and a mosh pit.

Didn't care for it.

Out of all the Arthur movies over the decades.

This one is the most freshest.

Not your typical Arthurian story telling.

Watch it if you haven't seen it.

One of the best takes on King Arthur I have seen in awhile.

There are worse movies out there.

It's just bobbins.........and David Beckham is just........interesting, to say the least.

Excalibur is far better.

dfnj2015: The Last Kingdom was a bit of a let down for me in that the books are far better (by serious orders of magnitude) and the series doesn't really follow the books except in a loose way. That said, definitely prefer it to Game of Thrones.
