The ultimate reason that anyone was fighting, in the South, was for the right to own and (ab)use PEOPLE!
Even if those po' boys wouldn't ever own slaves, they were fighting for the '[massa's rights and ability to do such.
What was the point of the whole war?
Stay focused rather than niggling around the bush.

I am not condoning the elimination of known history, but the placement of particular local heros (among the slave holders and their supporters) on particularly placed pedestals does not seem to be supported by the majority.
Perhaps evolution is slowly catching up with the south, slowlyyy....

I suggest reading excerpts from diaries and letters written by the men and women on both sides, it could be very enlightening for you.

I suggest that you leave your soft place of denial and enter into the Reality of what that war was all about. Every bullet was either pro slavery or anti!
No matter the personal situation of any individuals who pull the trigger.
Keep your emotional tear jerking diaries from the poor and desperate, they are no more, in this conversation, than an attempted distraction from the point.

I guess some people can put themselves in the shoes of a dirt poor White Southern farmer in 1860 and know what they would do if a bunch of people with rifles marched into their State and attempted kill them. You FIGHT. Americans don't do on your knees very well.

Jeez, the REASON that those po' folks were enlisted to fight against the North (who wanted to take their slaves away) was because the North/(lawful government) wanted to take their slaves away!
If they agreed that the devolved practice of slavery should end, there would have been no North to fight against and those po' boys can go back to whatever they been scratchin'! *__-

Every war is fought by (proxy) the poor and the powerless.

You do realize the majority of the people that did the fighting and the dying could not and most likely if the war had not broken out would not have ever been able to afford a slave right?

A very small percentage of the south owned slaves, most were fighting because their home state was under attack, and later on at the behest of the government.

Their 'home state' was under attack because they insisted on owning slaves and ignoring federal law.
Ultimately, all that po' folks weeping was about the slaves of the wealthy.
All wars are fought by the poor...

That is not what we are talking about.
The larger, poor, group fights to defend the politics of the elite... isn't that every war?
Opposition bullets do not discriminate by social strata; you fight with/for the 'bad guys', you get bulleted like the rest!
Dumping slavery as per ethics and the law would have meant that no one needed to 'protect' anything, homes, land, crops, etc...

Idolizing, on pedestals, the devolved humans who were instrumental in that devolved war to retain their slaves, is, likewise, devolved and unethical.

People who are so easily offended should take a long look at themselves and see that they are probably offending someone else somehow. And trying to make everyone happy is never going to work, just let people do what they feel is best for them , and as long as they aren't hurting anybody what is the big deal.
Usually people who complain about any little thing have something to hide. We should look into the ones who cry the loudest and see what they are hiding or find something that they do that is offense to someone else and have them explain the hypocrisy.

Those who complain the loudest are those who can do nothing productive in life. So instead they conflate acts such as demanding flag removals as acts of heroism on their part (to help those being oppressed by 100 year old statues and such)
Those who cannot create will destroy.
