Her polyester pants were melted into her genitals, if memory serves correctly. It just the way the media portrays these cases that always makes the person look like a money grubber. The media has to support their corporate overlords and the flocks follow suit, i.e. see OP.

Lid was not on correct. Kid who handed to me probably didn't make the coffee. I didn't sue because it was iced coffee. I actually never get hot coffee at Dunk's because it's too damn hot and I don't have the time on my drive to wait for it to cool down.

You can be certain that if it was hot coffee and gave me 3rd degree burns I would've had a demand letter in before I got home from the emergency room.

I burn the roof of my mouth when I eat pizza. It happens and I deal with it. If it gave me or my child 3rd degree burns, I'd sue the pizza shop.

I don't understand why people get mad when corporations screw up and they get sewed. I can only assume its because the corporate media makes fun of them and people jump on the band wagon.

how do you know the lid was not on correct?
you dropped it right?

if you knew the lid was not on correct then why did you grab it?

I still have the Rush Limbaugh rantings ringing in my ears from the McD's lawsuit for the lava hot coffee that almost killed the elderly lady. Thankfully I grew out of Rush, and I now do my own research and make my own decisions.

You are right, the media is weaponized and is used to keep us from getting too brave and keep us in line.

As the kid handed it to me, the lid came off. Directly during the handoff. The drive thru window was at a higher level than I was and was being handed downward. However, it is highly unlikely that I would've been checking to see if the lid was on tight before he handed it to me anyway. But you're probably right, minimum wage teenagers are known for their thoroughness.

I've spilled coffee and other beverages on my own plenty of times. It happens. It is my belief that it was not my fault on this occasion. Wether that is true or not is up for debate, though I'm not so sure why it is so difficult for you to believe. You just seem to be in the mood to argue. Do you own a Dunkin Donuts? Do you work at one? Own stock?

I don't feel good about this, and that's okay.

I am an exceedingly careful person.

When I get my coffee from a shop I treat it like surgery.

Just seems like basic common sense.
The lid was "defective"! What a lovely coincidence!

I guess I figured out my way to get a hundred grand.

I'd say clearly there is an assumption of risk when you drive with coffee in your crotch.

Ask me how I know....

so lets be analytical :

the " failure rate " for starbucks coffee lids = 1 / 1.5 million

now - for thje people who think this is " unacceptable "

lets have YOUR solution

given that failure is going to be a combination of :

manufacturing defect
employee error
customer abuse

i shall get popcorn and await the ex-spurts solutions

While I am very sorry she got burned, when I order something I expect to be hot, I treat it like it's what I expect -- very hot.

I don't assume that it will never be a danger of spilling. It's hot, and stuff happens. Most of the places (Starbucks and others) where i get coffee in the morning are usually busy because I and a bunch of other commuters all have the same idea, so they're busy. Someone might not get a lid popped on tight.

And lord knows the traffic itself isn't always easy peasy driving with stops and starts - some abrupt.

There is an element of some of my own responsibility there.

Agreed, as long as the product in the cup is safe, this coffee was too hot. Look into the reasons restaurants-coffee shops jack the temp of the product to unsafe temps.

why dont you post a link that shows that they do this or mcdonalds did it?
you keep saying it but have shown nothing.

the vid you posted said the coffee came out at the same temp coffee comes out of your home pot...

pretty sure those bunn percolators do not have adjustable settings so that means they would have to go into it and fiddle around with the temp somehow.
i am curious to know if that actually happened

I wonder how long it took to settle this?

I wonder because probably 2 years ago now, A semi was barreling down a snowy icy I-94, lost control, crossed the median and hit my son in law head on. He was trapped in the car for 4 hours, airlifted out and remarkably not severely injured.

I think the last offer from the trucking co. was 150k.

I rarely get Starbucks but when I do I find it's NEVER hot enough! It always luke warm and I ask them to make it hotter!

It's amazing what people sue for nowadays. In 1999 I was at a Ross (discount clothing store) I was trying on some Tommy Hilfiger jeans. lol They were "in" back then. Well the sensor tag came off and went through the arch of my foot right at the part where that tendon is. Let me tell you how much that freaking HURT! I still have problems with that part of my foot from what happened. I missed a week of work because I couldn't walk, my foot was swollen and I had INK in my foot! I had to get all kinds of shots, I wasn't too pleased. I went to Ross with what happened, they filled out an incident report and they paid my medical and time missed from work. I didn't need to sue. It was a mistake on their part on where they put those tags, shortly after they stopped putting them on the bottom of the leg and putting them on the waist.

People are their freaking sue happy ways. The only person I want to sue right now and probably could is Bank of Satan, aka Bank of America. One day I'll post the horrors I went through while working for that place. Oh it's bad.

$100k not bad for some coffee burns. Wonder what Ross would have given me lol I mean to this day if I wear high heels and there isn't arch support I have pain there!!!

Do you have any numbers to prove or disprove people are sue happy these days-i am really asking.

The $100 K could be because of 2-3rd degree burns to her -well frontal area below the equator. Drive thru and a coffee spill. Could be disfiguring in a really bad way.

If you are still having problems with your foot, then perhaps you should have been made whole by a settlement that could have gotten continuing care for the foot.

Yes many people are sue happy. The amount of silly lawsuits that fill my feeds on various sites tells me enough! I just read one where some guy or girl is suing their date for being on their phone during their first date! Yea how freaking stupid.

Also I never said I didn't disagree with why she sued. And as for my foot I couldn't give a crap at this point. It's not life altering and they paid my medical and missed work. Why go further? Sure I have some issues here and there but so what. I will live!

Sorry, those are not numbers, those are feelings and rumors. I have tried to find any documentation about a huge increase in the # of law suits, and have come up short.
