I wish Bernie won. We need this in this country. America first! Time to close our 700+ foreign military bases and make our people better!

We need to stop straddling our students with so much debt. We need to take care of sick people because it's not like they are faking it.

His promises are irrelevant.

Taxing the rich to pay for education and healthcare will only result in more expensive school and hospital supplies. You can tax them all you want, but you can't beat them as long as they control the prices of everything.

I agree that we need to close bases around the globe and stop our wasteful military spending.

But student debt is so high because of Govt interference. And outside of emergency medical assistance Healthcare should not be taxpayer funded.

I just don't understand the mindset of those that want to make taxation heavier on those that have made more money....

Maybe, just maybe a way to stop straddling students with so much debt is to kick conmen/women like Napolitano OUT of our education system or maybe cut back spending on a pretty campus and focus on actual education. Maybe stop all the stupid political crap on campuses altogether except for in the classroom so we can cut back on campus expenses. Maybe get the book publishers to quit mandating a new book every year or have them available at a third of the price online....you know, to cut out having to reprint all of them all the time.

As far as healthcare, I would love to see a mandate for crap fast-food restaurants to have to pay for their customers triple bypass surgeries and whatever other health crises come up from pushing that crap.

No need to tax the rich if we just put heavy fines on the corporations that cause all the mess. I would bet the second a class action law suit hits McD's for billions and actually goes to court.....they will start either shutting stores or be forced into a healthier choice for consumers.

As a business owner considered to be in the higher tax brackets....i don't agree with taxing me more. I worked hard to get here and I have nothing to do with anything that is causing anyone else harm....and no...nothing has been handed to me...

I have to agree, what Corbyn is pushing will not happen he is making these promises knowing full well he is almost certainly not going to win the election...these pledges are just a face saving campaign to drum up a few extra supporters to try and make it appear he was in the running and stood for the common people of the UK.

Even if Labour do win Corbyn will back peddle on all these promises because they are pipe dreams there is no way he would get them passed and he knows it.

The problem with "soak the rich" policies is that they end up soaking the merely affluent and the upper middle classes. In fact it's usually the super-rich who are behind these schemes, to destroy any potential competition.

Subsidize sites like this: www.khanacademy.org...

Pay students for taking classes and getting good grades.

Taxes can't be too bad because every year the rich get richer and richer. Wealth inequality is at all time highs. Taxes need to be higher.

The facts simply do not support your way of thinking.

Great post. I was about to post the same thing almost identically until I read yours.

Yes, as has been proven time and time again, the more government gets invilved in education the more expensive and worthless it becomes.

The reason education is so expensive is that the government gave out guarenteed loans, thus allowing schools to exponentially raise their prices. Meanwhile, degrees are more useless than they ever have been.

The real way to drive down education is to end these government loans, and let young people know that college is not needed for all jopbs and that there are great careers available without a degree.

This will force universities to collapse or offer reasonable rates, and end the idea that everyone has to go to college to get worthless degrees like womens studies.

I have no problem with paying higher taxes, not that I am in any income range that would pay higher taxes than I already do. The problem lies in how taxes are spent.Throwing money at a problem does not always solve the issues either. In America it is local decision makers who promise this and that for education if we just approve one more tax, they never mention the other taxes already approved and being collected which they told us would solve all our education problems.

I live in a state that approved river boat gaming and lottery participation to solve our education woes. This was more than 20 years ago and we are still in the bottom percentile of educational results. We have schools that have no air conditioning, roofs that leak, and children that still cant read.

There has been some recent gains after the institution of charter schools and the school voucher programs. The Charter Schools accept anyone, vouchers are available to everyone, the problem is that Charter Schools have strict rules and guidelines and if students are discipline problems then they are kicked out and returned to the regular schools which suffer, not from lack of funds, they get the same but from students and parents who don't participate and from teachers whose hands are tied because of students who come to school for social reasons and not education.

Loads of money don't equate to success so I am skeptical that any new taxes no matter who it is on rich or poor would ever make it to where it is needed after the administrators get a hold of it and misspend it on higher salaries for themselves and local school board members. Hopefully they find a solution but until they learn how to spend taxes and actually stick to a budget then more money is never going to solve it, hopefully England has a better systems than we do and they will do what is right, I no longer trust our people in charge to ever do the right thing with taxes.

Student loans are not the end of the world here, below a certain income you pay nothing back, and then it's a sliding scale in higher income brackets.
Mine hasn't bothered me, it's just like a small tax, and well worth it in my opinion.

Students moan about the loans, but graduates rarely give a toss when they realise how low the repayments are.

Neil Cavuto had a college student on his show a while back; said college student wanted to increase taxes on the 1% until there were no families living in poverty and college was free for everybody.

Cavuto countered that by asking what happens when that 1% just pulls up stakes and moves out of the county; the college student replied that there will always be a 1% to tax into oblivion, and claimed that she and her friends would, if they were ever part of the 1%, be "absolutely okay" with paying a 90% tax rate.

Cavuto then explained that a 100% tax rate on the 1% wouldn't fund Medicare, and only Medicare, for more than three years. The student responded by simply saying she didn't believe that.

What a terrific argument.

The point here is that the overwhelming majority of the mega-rich didn't get that way, and don't stay that way, by being idiots with their money. And simply taking all of their money in pursuit of some Utopian ideology is all well and good until they make their money impossible to take.

Exactly what my thoughts on the subject are.

Everything the Govt touches becomes a very expensive failure, without exception. And it's us taxpayers who end up feeling the pain.

How there are still people who think the Govt could ever manage such large complicated programs in an effective way, is beyond me.

I'm pretty glad that he didn't win, we don't need a First Lady on trial for bank fraud.

Hey come on, she was just trying to "redistribute" some money from people that had it to people she deemed in need of it. That's all.
