SOLA FIDE:
By faith alone one does good deeds

SOLA GRATIA:
Confess sins to God only

SOLA SCRIPTURA:
Your instructions are only in The Bible

SOLO CHRISTO:
Mercy only by advocacy of Christ

SOLO DEO GLORIA:
(glory to God only)
Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
AMEN!

Confess sins to God only

Just on a translation point; SOLA GRATIA actually means "only by the gift of God" (that is the significance of "grace").
It is the reason why SOLA FIDE applies.

What if you salvation doesn't come from God but getting forgiveness from the people you have sinned against!

I kind of think this may be what Jesus was teaching and the text was changed to the only place to get salvation was to buy your absolution from the church.

Thanks! How would one say: Confess sins to God only, in LATIN? Anyways this is the SOLA contra Sacrament of Penance, according to the Dutch version of wikipedia.org on the 5 SOLAs

Both forgiveness by man and God, is golden (even better) ;-)

I think the connection is that SOLA GRATIA implies "We don't have to do things to satisfy God", and the Sacrament of Penance is about doing things. The statement contradicts the practice of "doing penance" rather than specifically the practice of confession.

Yes! One cannot Hail Mary his or her way out of it, maybe SOLA GRATIA is also and was originally meant contra paid by money Indulgences of the Roman Catholic Church (which they do not do anymore by the way, as you know, Thank God
)

sycophancy is not spirituality.

sycophancy is not spirituality.

sycophancy is NOT spirituality.

sycophancy is religion, and religion is politics, and politics is business.

wikipedia is very reliable actually. you can tell from the bibliography section at the bottom of nearly every article. if they are suspect then what does that tell you about half the members of this site? if wikipedia sucks, then abovetopsecret is trash. lets take care not to throw stones especially when wikipedia has published articles and videos about all of the effort their dedicated staff put into making sure almost every line is well referenced and tagged. you cant go through a paragraph on their site without at least a few links confirming the content of said paragraph. do we do that? pffft...no. no we do not. show some respect.

Yes so true! Stupid that some professors advice their students not to use or reference wikipedia.org every page has a guardian or even a team of guardians to prevent that artefacts (as in fake facts) come in the encyclopedia.

Scripture does not support any kind of "buying absolution from the church."

All sin is ultimately a sin against God, therefore, the confession that should be made is a confession to God. Only God has the power to forgive sin.

The corollary to that is that no, your salvation is not dependent upon some other human being giving you forgiveness. That would put the power of eternal salvation in the hands of humans, and scripture IS clear that that power belongs only to God.

Forgiveness from sin is available, freely, to anyone who believes in Jesus. These are what is meant by Sola Fide (by faith alone), Sola Gratia (by grace alone) and Sola Cristo (by Christ alone).
