I don't ... I don't even ... I'm at a loss on this one.

It seems that the avocado-eating masses are mishandling their fruit, resulting in a multitude of slash and/or stab wounds that have led to "serious nerve and tendon injuries, requiring intricate surgery." In the most extreme cases, the Times reported that patients never regained full use of the injured hand. (In its coverage of avocado handling earlier this month, the New York Times stated the wife of one of its employees racked up a $20,000 hospital bill due to an avocado injury.)

How do you stab yourself cutting an avocado so badly that you do serious tendon damage to your hand?!

WTF, people ...

My guess is that they're too busy watching the latest cat video to actually pay attention to what they're doing!

Those dang distracted cooks!!!!

Cutting bagels have long been a problem - learned this from an 'Economics of Law' class in grad school...I'll see if I can find the study and link it.

There's money in it as well: Better Bagel Knife; Fewer ER Visits - WSJ

Wow. This is comedy gold. Thanks Ketsuko. Avocados found a way to strike back and hurt us. This is the coming of the great Avocadoclypse.I knew that i always had a good reason to hate them. #notmyfingers

I know how to slice and chop. Never been hurt.

Have gotten avocado wounds (boo boos really) from trying to stab the seed for the old twist and pinch trick. If the seed is extra slimy sometimes the knife tip goes rogue

Hmmm?

ARI (Avocado Related Injuries).

It's not as tasty unless there's a bloodletting, right?

It's because folks push too hard with the knife and they do it while cupping an avocado in their hand. So they are right over the principle flexor tendons of the hand.

Then there is the part where you bring the knife down hard on the pit and then *twist* to remove it...

It's all about hand-eye-coordination.

Some are destined for the ER.

Then there's the Bagels; Those are dangerous, too.

Have a nice day, Ketsuko.

If you cant successfully cut into an avacado, then you should never even be allowed to pick up a knife. -- I say that but Ive injured myself in some dumb ways. Not with an avacado though!

I tried to come up with something witty for 'try'.

Instead I'll just get back on topic and say that an avocado is really dangerous.

Be cautious everybody.

Gee, and here I was worried that Avocado shreds DNA.nutritionfacts.org...

When the health industry pushes something as a super food, beware.

If you weren't eating this latex food, you wouldn't be cutting yourself.

I cut them in half. Lay the half with the seed up on a cut board. Then smack the seed with the blade.

Then you pick up the half and use the knife to pull up and out.
Be careful popping the seed off the blade.

All it take is a slight slip with a sharp knife and then you end up diced into 1cm cubes.

It happens all the time...

That's the easy part. Just pinch with your thumb and forefinger and the seed plops right off. Stabbing the seed is the risky part. If the blade tip doesn't pierce and slides off...I can see it leading to a little cut.

Sharp Knives Save...

If your knife doesn't accomplish a simple avocado mission...

You may need to address the tools you use ?

This should be a leson, make sure you Google how to do anything before you start. Common sense is over rated......especially now that we have YouTube.

I am going to go be embarrassed for the human race now.
