Yes, it's a mite disingenuous to state that the statues of dead Confederate generals are merely 'historical reference points' when they are obviously commemorative and celebratory. Nice try, though...

The people who want the statues down are looking at this the wrong way. Those statues are a reminder of history, removing them diminishes the dark history they represent. I for one would WANT those statues left alone, as a reminder that this was once a country that had slavery, and that people were willing to fight and die to preserve human bondage. Its like tearing down Auschwitz.

Thank you to everyone posting, I'm sorry that I haven't been responding as much as I should, but I appreciate all of your opinions and responses; that is FREE speech without violence and PC filtering. You see this topic has long been on my mind, but for some reason this act and event ( monuments) set me off. Thank you all again, this helps true perspective on what's happening and how it makes other people feel.
