Is it me or them? I posted on a site about what there opinion was about my baby with a poll saying 'cute, adorable, meh, neutral, and ugly'. This caused a whole hell of drama. People were offended that I had the option ugly in the poll, and how I am not suppose to let people say my kid is ugly and how I am going to raise my child to think beauty is importance.

Do you think I was wrong or are these people being over dramatic?

I would go for over dramatic. Lets face it, babies can be ugly! I was, thankfully my boys weren't! May I ask why you would care what others thought of the looks of your baby?

Sounds like you were looking for the trouble, like a gambler who goes to the casino subconsciously wanting to lose.

Or is it I was just subconsciously trying to enjoy myself my by drawing such a parallel?

It's them...

...they can't be honest with themselves, so they feel threatened on seeing someone honest enough to be objective about their own child's looks -

- although I am assuming that you would never, ever have allowed your child to find out that she might be considered "ugly"?

My daughter is 18 now, and thinks it's amusing that when she was born, I thought she looked like ET - her face was a bit wide, and she had these great big 'googly' eyes always looking around trying to focus on things...

...of course, her dad thought she was a 'beautiful baby'...but he's not the realist I am - lol..

Mind you, within a few weeks, her face got over the birth process (being squeezed thru a teensy 'tunnel'), and she grew into her eyes, and then she was quite adorable!

ASD spectrum - People will get mad every time you violate their emotional investment, in worst case scenarios they will also hurt you physically

Maybe they're a bunch of (actually) honest people not happy to be put on the spot where either they have to lie and say AWWWWWWWWWWW, or be honest???

Of course that would require the baby isn't awwww AND the bulk of them actually be more honest people where most people I find really aren't. Not very likely set of variables in my estimation, but possible....

Any time someone claims they are offended, it is because of their own lack of emotional self control. So, the fault is not yours, it's theirs haha, don't worry, people will always find something to get offended by; it's easier than learning how to control emotions apparently.

a reply to: lostgirl MY thoughts exactly! They can't be objective about it. It has to be coddling but they think it's jacked up/f**ked up to have that option, lol.

No, I would never let her know what people say to her to me if it's bad. There be no benefit to that.

10/1 odds you were subconsciously trying to enjoy yourself. 5/1 odds the baby was ugly.

I am more curious as to why the opinions of others would matter, and why you'd post the baby's pic online, for strangers, than I am concerned about drama or their opinions. Plus, if looks aren't what you want to emphasize, again, why does it matter? Your baby is your baby. Hopefully well loved, and cared for, and who cares what someone else thinks about how the baby looks?

why did you even want to ask other people what they think of your baby ???

FFS - its not like to can replace it if the concensus is " it sucks " - you is stuck with it

I'm watching "Toddlers and Tiaras" at this moment and am shocked how parents use their children for their own gratification. It doesn't matter how these experiences effect the child or the child's feelings about themselves and others.
Sounds like you maybe suffering from the same inferiority and need for outside verification that you have a perfect, beautiful child.
This is obviously more about your own ego than anything else. This will project onto your child.
You might consider talking to a professional about this obsession.
