If I were a billionaire I would possibly do the same thing. Remember, $100 million is not a lot to a billionaire. Especially over 10 years or so.

This is something we all clamor for. A private, non profit, business definitely has my interest. I believe the biggest problem is not only finding these messages but also decoding them. I'm also certain that if said intelligence does exist it's possible there ways of communication are way different.

For me it changes nothing. I always have known simply through logical thought processes. Everyone else who seem to think that the entire universe is there to be looked at for their own personal enjoyment, I cannot say. Their minds will be blown and I figure some will out right try to deny it and claim it as a hoax.

That's the thing about society, it really hasn't changed much since 50 years ago. People are still uneducated and ignorant of the fact that there is life beyond our little blue marble of a planet and life possibly existing beyond our 3 dimensions.

Where does it specifically state man is Gods only creation? SOme nutters will scream end times or science is the devil,but those of us with the view of God as a Scientist would not flip out. Come on He had to be a scientist to get humans so complex and also the universe as well.

Meh, its nice to see this all happening. We all know space is vast and infinite. Lets say this is all true and we do recieve a message from a star system estimated at least 100 light years away. The time it would take to decipher it and to determine a way of sending it could take years or decades, not to mention the time it takes to send any kind of reply signal through space using our current limited technology.

I for one would die happy just knowing that it was a signal sent by intelligences even if we couldn't communicate back and fourth within my life time. At least then we would know that there is a greater point in attempting to become a space faring world other than to just colonise space.

I dont read religious text so I wouldn't know. The jury is still out on who created us. So God is a scientist from another dimension or another civilization or whatever you believe in, we will never know until we die.

I would love for the world to divert all its attention and work towards space travel and it would be a great thing if this is the one discovery that helps make it all possible.

Starfleet academy anyone??? Nah im joking but it would be awesome to see future generation of kids lined up training to be the next space travelers.

I wouldn't be surprised if one of public organizations already found intelligent transmissions with undeniable proofs but they won't release it because their job would be done.

Certain concepts are Universal: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Democracy, Dictatorship, Socialism, Anarchy, Peace, War, Aggressive, Passive, Strong, Weak, Rich, Poor, Fat, Thin, Healthy, Sick, Tall, Short, Pretty, Ugly, Educated, Simple, Stupid, Intellectual, Followers, Leaders, Independents. So these aliens come to Earth have in mind certain individuals they are going to contact or show themselves to, and who they will take or experiment on. I feel the wealthy and smart are going to see things others are not. Flying over a mansion verses flying over the row houses.... I feel earth is visited daily and those who see believe... and those who don't see, do not believe. It is that simple. We are possibly a human farm. They probably scan people at night in their beds too.

Assuming we have the technology to event detect alien communication.

This might be a waste of time. But you never know if you might catch something.

The impact of a successful discovery of an advanced alien civilization would be immense.

Personally, the Universe would be come infinitely larger in terms of "what is", rather than the mostly "what might be". I "know" there are others out there...now I actually would know... That would be, to say the least, impactful on ones outlook on life.

Day to day? Not so much. Bills still gotta be paid, food put on the table, etc...

Religious impact that someone brought up...? **phew** That's going to be interesting, to say the least... Some of the more, shall we say, insular religious sects would be in instant denial...others, of a more inclusive bent, maybe not so much.

A civilization would not just emit one lonely signal, it would be reproducable by anyone if they show where and what method was used to listen.

I'd be pleased if they could team up with the people at JWST to focus the efforts on planets that have the elements for life.
The next few years is certainly going to be interesting - can't wait for first light from the JWST.

Either way...the other relative news is the revolution in finding exo-planets. We are quickly discovering that planets in the habitable zone are not unusual, even our closest neighbor has one (and likely more)..

Call me crazy (lots of people do😜) but I think they may be actually getting ready to do a partial disclosure. They're getting people used to the idea. I'm thinking maybe Antarctica. Something conveniently "found" beneath the broken hunk of ice, maybe.
