MOSCOW (Reuters) - Several hundred Russians lined up in central Moscow on Saturday under the gaze of riot police to hand over handwritten appeals for President Vladimir Putin to quit, as similar protests took place in other cities.
Putin, who has dominated Russian politics for 17 years, has not said whether he will run in presidential elections in March 2018. But the 64-year-old politician, who enjoys high popularity ratings, is widely expected to do so.
Saturday's protest in the capital -- called "We're sick of him" -- was organised by the Open Russia movement founded by Kremlin critic Mikhail Khodorkovsky. Once Russia's richest man, he was freed by Putin in 2013 after spending a decade in jail for fraud, a charge Khodorkovsky said was politically-motivated.

Paid protesters paid for by western ngos.
Proof?
I have none. Think Ukraine and Syria but on a smaller scale because it's a lot harder to get away with this kind of thing in Russia after the clamp down on ngos.

Jehovah's Witnesses recently had a global letter-writing campaign to Putin asking him to please continue let their brothers in Russia gather together to read the Bible in peace. It has been estimated that 40-50 million letters were delivered to him and other high officials.
Yet there has not been one peep of this in the media.
If tens of millions of letters on behalf of an innocent people had no effect upon him. You must think what this will bring.
Navalny is the grandstanding activist who routinely voices opposition to Putin, has attempted to impeach Medvedev, and routinely holds unsanctioned protests in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The western media hail him as a demi-god in much the same fashion as Hillary and Obama.
While Navalny’s background as an activist is lengthy, starting in 2000, however, in 2014 a worthy connection was made:
In 2013, Navalny ran for mayor of Moscow pegged under the party RPR-PARNUS. PARNUS (Peoples Freedom Party) which is a liberal, social political party led by Mikhail Kasyanov, and is an associate member with the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats For Europe (ALDE)- an extreme Socialist organization. Navalny pulled out of the race after he was sentenced to prison for embezzlement and fraud.
In 2014, Boris Nemtzov, a co-chairman of the Russian “Peoples Party”, worked on a project of coalition between Navalny and Khodorkovsky who headed The Open Russia Foundation. The Open Russia Foundation is a parallel organization to Soros Open Society Foundation. The original board members of Open Russia were Henry Kissinger and Lord Jacob Rothschild. It is referred to as a philanthropic NGO, and after being shut down in 2006, it relaunched in 2014 creating an activist platform against Putin headed by Navalny and Khodorkovsky.

"Several hundred Russians".
Lol. Not near as much as 100 million-ish Americans want Trump out. Or wanted Obama out. Or Bush...
Or half of Canada wants Trudeau out.
But lets focus on the pettiness of several hundred russians.

I think you are kinda missing the point.. Seldom do western protesters face the possible repercussions of a protest like those in China or Russia.. Symbolic peaceful protest in several countries can get you disappeared or your organs harvested while you are tied to a gurney and fully awake ... Most people in many countries prefer to keep a low profile..IMO
