It's a poor country. However, it's a very diverse place. There isn't just one kind of India. There are about as many middle class people in India as total people in the US.

Personally I live in a poor city in SC. When I go to parts of the city I see pretty horrible things.

The US also has a sex slave issue. India may be a struggling nation but, I have been to plenty of nice places in the South, Mumbai is a big city. If you went to parts of LA you would see horrific crimes against children as well in parts of the city. We let that happen everyday. So before you get to high on that horse,....the social contract is nearly impossible to maintain when people are in a state of survival. When your starving the entire game changes.

The Police in India & Pakistan live on bribes. Its normal practice. If you have a dispute with your neighbour and want him arrested you can pay the police to arrest him. If the neighbour has money he then pays the police to release him without any charges. I have no doubt many police officials will know all about these scenarios and if not actively involved, will be paid not to take action. As the saying goes, its their culture
