1) Require basic education (like an NRA safety class) for all gun owners. :
(This is the only point I can agree on)

2) Gun ownership would now be like a drivers license. Periodic registration to make sure you are still entitled to own and carry and you must show proof a safety education refresher each renewal period) :
("A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
a total gun registry will be the first coarse of a gun grab, once they know were they all are )

3) Mental illness, felony convictions, No fly list, etc will resort in a loss of gun ownership:
(who is going to determine your mental state? a crazy ex husband?
Felons can not own guns already)

4) Individual states would decide suppressor and CCW laws :
(States already decide CCW laws)

5) Guns can only be sold/traded through a FFL trader and no straw sales :
(Say good by to your dads gun collection your due to inherit)

6) 10 day waiting period on all firearms to ensure a complete background check. :
(Indiana used to have a waiting period but dropped it due to Internet back ground checks are faster)

7) Maintain the ban on fully automatic weapons :
(Why, I should be able to have the same weapons as criminals)

So what would you consider to be reasonable in terms of speech control?

Having sat through a concealed carry course that included live fire for score, I'm 100% for a mandatory class and some level of demonstrated level of proficiency AS LONG AS it's provided 100% free. There were people in that class that downright scared me with their weapons handling on the range, even after being given explicit instructions.

AR15s and automatic weapons are not about hunting, they are about the citizenry being able to defend itself from a wayward government (like if the laws of Kailifornistan start escaping its' borders somehow).

The 100% way to start moving gun violence in the right direction IS ENFORCE THE LAWS ALREADY ON THE BOOKS! I'm pretty sure none of the bangers in LA, Chicago, Baltimore, et. al. ARE NOT IN LEGAL POSSESSION OF THE GUNS THEY USE TO COMMIT CRIMES!

Any gun control is inherently unconstitutional and therefore unreasonable.

See the second and fourteenth amendments.

Amendment II A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

So as not to offend too many Americans I would consider

1. you can keep your guns
2. you can carry concealed or open
3. no bullets exist or are produced anymore
4. except bullets in a bullet point list....

Arrest criminals, not guns.

As long as I haven't a record of hurting others, robbery, assault that kind of thing, I should be allowed to own any kind of firearm I want to.. That includes full auto, suppressors and destructive devices.

I think every citizen should be given a gun once they come of age. They should also face mandatory service for at least 2 years to learn to use and care for it and those around them.

Less than 1inch grouping

Depends on the range. 1" is pretty tight, op did say 'reasonable' so I'll go with 3-4" grouping of quick controlled pairs in 1.5 seconds at 10 yards. From holster.

But seriously, a minimum age to purchase and carry, and you're not a criminal, and you're not crazy. Beyond that is all kind of feel-good nanny statey, IMHumbleO.

You're talking hand gun, I'm speaking rifle. In my case Savage 111 with a Leupold 4x12 chambered in 300 win mag and good ammo or handloads. .25 inch possible but 1 inch expected at 300 yards.

This pretty much sums up why there will never be a consensus on gun control.

First: No one should own a gun unless they're _ready_ and _willing_ to drop the hammer on another human being. Not, "Wellllll ... if it got down to the point where I was sure the bad guy was gonna harm me or my family ..."

I'm talking, "My life is more important to me, than yours was to you. You made your last mistake crossing my path. You won't be a mistake anyone else has to ever encounter. You're a bad guy. Die for that!!"

And don't go trying to give me none of that hokey, "Wellllll ... what if I just want one to go hunting?" No!! You can't own one then. Go rent one for the duration of hunting season. LOL

There is no reasonable gun control in my estimation. There is very, very little in the way of government action tht is beneficial, beyond maybe building codes. Even the FDA....selling access to us. over 40k compounds have been approved without them testing anything.

Speed limits....the standard way to set them is to set them to the 85th percentile of what people actually drive. Turns out legislators artificially lower speeds and decrease safety in the process.

I find it hard to accept government influence. Especially when they take away a right and sell it back to you.

Just enforce the laws already on the books.

This... and this... and this..

we have mountains of regulations already covering gun control, there is no need to sacrifice more trees on the alter of fear.

I think the existing laws already prohibit too many people from defending themselves. In fact they already push farther than what most people think. Most people know that felons are not permited to have any access to a firearm, but did you know that a prohibition extends to anyone who has been charged with a violent crime. Something as simple as punching a guy (for whatever reason) can have your right to be in the same room as a gun, taken away. I know several people who have been falsely accused by their wives of being abusive and had their guns literally confiscated by the police. I don't think we need more laws, i think we need better education for everybody.

Technically speaking any machine gun after 1986 was.

New ones.

Pre 86 was grandfathered in.

Of course out of the reach of most people since they can't afford them due to the cost.
