Something like that does seem to happen...whether it does or not, I certainly don't know, but odd things do seem to happen at long intervals like that.

Petrified Forest.

If you ever get the chance to go...you'll not regret it. Spectacular doesn't begin to describe it. At night, under a full moon, or at dawn...Just wow.

True...thanks for correcting me. The photographers called these "petrified" and I failed to realize they in fact were "lone" dead trees.

Knew they were heavy, but didn't realize just how hard they were!

How hard is petrified wood? Very hard: petrified wood rates between 7 and 8 on Mohs Hardness Scale, with talc at 1 and diamonds at 10.

It looks like one of those flat rock slabs sticking out almost upright, we're just looking at it edge-on. So it's really the same kind of object as the flat rock to the right of it.

Here it is from a slightly different angle: mars.jpl.nasa.gov...

It could be a Tufa Tower?
That area was supposedly once underwater.

How long ago did Mars have a dense enough atmosphere for a tree?

Let's get real.

Probably not.
More accurately stated;
"Cool Find... something that looks like a petrified tree, to me, spotted on Mars."

very cool find. one thing that strikes me about that picture is just how much destruction is on display. look at those rocks and boulders with their layers of strata. all going in different directions from one boulder to the next like they were just tossed out their by a giant. hopefully they give this a closer look with the rover.

I can see a face on it.

About a third the way up, slightly to the left.

They dont exist according to the agenda to bury the past .

Like, a vertical fossil spanning millions of years of wavelike sedimentary layers which magically stratified..

Polystratum fossils don't exist! Lol. But dead animals sit around for millions of years to be fossilized and trapped under millions of years of dust! Nope, no wave action trapping them in mud. Just millions of year of dust, lol, and magical bones that stick around, unlike any dead animal I've seen.

Let's get real.

If we take evolution of life on Earth as the model, Mars hardly had dense atmosphere long enough for single-celled (and perhas some primitive multicelled) organisms to appear. Certainly not forests of trees and land animals.

Not adding to my opinion it's a rock, (note-opinion)
but I noticed there is a suggestion of a man or woman
reaching for a sword. maybe it's statue!
sorry for using paint to highlight. I was being lazy.
see original pic by OP and it will jump right out.

That looks like a queen flipping a bird to the rover. Awesome.

Strange when people make claims about things on Mars there is only one of each object if Mars had trees whats the chance of only evidence of one same with all the other claimed objects/animals.

"polystrate fossils " only exist in the delusions of creationist wingnuts

but hey - feel free to cite the location of a " real one "

it amazers me - that people " see " trees , animals , buildings etc etc addum finitum

but none comment on the fact that the pic shows apparent sedimentary rocks
