.......or maybe you won't be surprised at all. I know I'm not. They now have a pair of jeans, for only $425, that make you look like you did a hard day's work....and you don't have to lift a finger. Well, other than to get your wallet out.
Seriously? Has it really come to that? That people are so afraid of actual work, I mean the get your hands dirty, sweaty, pounding, hammering, grub in the dirt, work, that they are willing to pay that?
Has the illusion of work become more important than the work itself?
Now, I know these are mostly for the well to do fashion plate, who wants to have that rugged look, but, how many kids are going to want them [ and bug the living crap outta their parents ] because they're the "in" thing and I Just Gotta Have'em or I won't Be Cool MOOOOM.
I can see one of mine asking ..[ well not really, they know better ] and me just throwing them a pair of Levi's and saying "Go change the oil in my truck, you'll be in fashion in a few minutes"

shop.nordstrom.com...

mikerowe.com...

This morning, for your consideration, I offer further proof that our country’s war on work continues to rage in all corners of polite society. Behold the latest assault from Nordstrom’s. The “Barracuda Straight Leg Jeans.” Finally – a pair of jeans that look like they have been worn by someone with a dirty job…made for people who don’t. And you can have your very own pair for just $425.00.

ETA - Oh and while you're at it, click on the Nordstrom's link, scroll down a bit and tell me, do you see anything that makes those other jeans worth $200 to $400?

LMAO...I just read this review on the Nordstrom site.

These jeans work so you don't have to...
These jeans are built Ford-tough for the hipster who is built Prius-weak. Look like you are a self-reliant, capable man rather than the sniveling lady boy you truly are. Two thumbs up for down-home authenticity.

Right? I took care of my clothes. I sure as hell wasn't ripping holes in them on purpose or paying double for ones that had already been half destroyed.

Hey DAVID64!

Well nothing surprises me anymore, but you've just given me a great idea for making money!

My hubby is a pipe-layer (road construction) working with gas & water main connections, etc. Every night he comes home, jeans covered in sewage/mud etc. so now I think I will post them on e-bay for $300 each (a bargain, eh?).
(Send me your mailing address and I'll make sure you get your cut of the profits!)

It begs the question who is working so hard to be able to afford such a frivolous purchase?

"War on Work"? Really?

As a side note, this is how supply and demand works. Instead of complaining about it, why not cash in by selling some "work worn" jeans of your own? I'm about to put on some raggedy jeans I use for yard work. One of the cuffs is torn completely off, the second is torn up, and the jeans have a few tears & holes in random places. Maybe I should try to sell them for a few hundred bucks?

That's what I'm talking about! since it's legal & people are willing to buy it in a free society, why not profit from it?

But then this place wouldn't be full of old men shaking their fists at clouds in the biggest echo chamber of them all. What else would people post about if not for some asinine complaint about "kids today"?

I know, right? I'm not even considering you competition with this, because I'm sure the jeans will be different sizes! I foresee a lovely home-based business for myself now.
We get his work jeans for $8/pair at the local Goodwill store and most of them are expensive brand names.

Society is so messed up at this point that somebody is going to get rich from this. Everybody wants to give the appearance now of being something they're not.
I'm 50-50 serious-sarcastic, but in reality...we might be onto something!

You think 52 is old?
30 year olds seem to think I'm doing just fine.

I for one look forward to the day that human minds free humanity from all hard work.
Work smarter not harder.

I'd sell them my old jean's in a heart beat if I thought I could get that much for them.

The old saying is there is one born every minute and it is obvious that they have taken this very much to heart.

willing to buy it

See, that's kinda the point. I grab an old pair of jeans, go change the oil in my truck, wipe my hands on my pants, maybe go refinish a table, get some Tung oil on them and viola! they're suddenly worth hundreds of dollars, so some rich kid can look like he actually did something. You see nothing wrong with that attitude?
As in, they can talk the talk, but can't walk the walk.

If people can be young at heart, can they not be old and crotchety at heart as well?

Certainly. But pointing out absurdities doesn't make me crotchety.

Ignore him, you're just a pup still.

I shake my fist in the air regularly but I'm not an old man.
Can you direct me towards some ads for these "working man jeans"...I'm having trouble writing my own ad, lol.

My God. I stress about spending $30 on Wrangler jeans. But, if people will pay for them, why not? Hell, I have about 3 pairs of jeans all beat up. Quick $1200.

LOL Nope, I see no problem with that at all. It's just another business opportunity to me. How many people wear snakeskin boots without actually hunting & skinning the snakes first? Same thing.
