'White Lives Matter' flyers found

BRADENTON, Fla. -- A group of Bradenton residents are still in shock after finding dozens of plastic bags scattered along several blocks. Inside of them: a few rocks and pieces of paper with the message "white lives matter."

"Once I read the message I just didn't know how to dispose of it. That's how bothersome it was to me," said one resident who asked to remain anonymous.

Inside the homes of 28th Street West in Bradenton live families of different races and ethnicities: some Caucasian, Hispanic, and African American. Many of these people now afraid to show their identities, telling ABC7 they are disturbed by these flyers found outside their doors Easter morning.

"I was kind of horrified, saddened, just in disbelief that people feel this way," said another Bradenton resident, who lives in a bi-racial home.

The packets contain a URL leading to the website for the group Endangered Souls. The site mentions teachings from David Lane; a well-known white supremacist. The group's website states "we do not tolerate any double standard that discriminates against whites" and says it is spreading pride, not hate.

ACLU Cooperating Attorney Andrea Flynn Mogensen says the group is not violating any laws with their message, other than possible littering.

"Even messages that are unpopular or go against the grain for most of us are protected," explained Mogensen. "If it crosses over into hate speech instead of promoting ones own race and it's against another race then that's another story."

Neighbors hope whoever distributed these flyers can look past what's on the outside, and know everyone is the same internally.

"I just don't understand the hate like that because of a color. White is a color. We all are a color," said a resident.

Another neighbor told ABC7 this isn't the first time she found a flyer like this thrown on her front lawn. She received several a few months back but tossed it in the trash immediately.

Update: In a statement to ABC7, Endangered Souls said: "All races are allowed to have pride but over time, white pride has come to be believed to equal hate. This stigma has got to change and we are trying to make being a proud white person socially acceptable."

There is no such skin tone as white, or rather, if there is, only about one percent of people who call themselves white, actually are. Most everyone who writes "White" in the skin tone section of a questionnaire is actually off pink, with a smattering of freckles. Someone needs to come up with a better name for it, one which actually means what it says, rather than being a lie people tell themselves, because the complexity of the truth is too much for them.

So true. I got to wondering last year the difference between white pride and white supremacy... well my impression from Wikipedia is they are ABSOLUTELY THE SAME THING FOR SURE YO. No spectrum of degrees, just plain white and black.

Black pride, oh well thats just dreamy yummy stuff to be admired.

I dont like the terms white & black as they subconsciously maintain a reality of polar binary opposites (which is the foundation of US VS THEM mentality), something which I have a profoundly peculiar pet peeve with (see Socio-Agnosticism), but the alternative reference phrases for both are hard on conversation efficiency, while its so ingrained into conversation language my impression it only irritates everyone when you go rogue all the time criticizing it.

There is no such thing as black or white.

Color is a misconception to begin with.

It's been bastardized in to meaning race. Where as the only one that currently exists on the planet is human.

The correct term would be nationality, and people can change it whenever they feel froggie.

I think skin colors are racist. White skin is white cause it rejects all wavelengths of light. It rejects all the colors and thays racist.

Black skin absorbs and accepts all colors of light and thus can never be racist.

White people are inherently racist they cant help it.
