The event was a freedom of speech rally.

Antifa is (generally) a title given to left-wingers that are willing to use violence to silence people that they think are "fascists." The irony that using violence to silence the opposition is itself inherently fascist behavior is lost on them, but it is what it is.

When most people say Antifa they're referring to the people that show up demonstrations and turn them into riots. People that apply the label to any and all left-leaning protesters are using it incorrectly, though some folks on the left will say they're Antifa just because they're anti-Trump and think he's a fascist.

That's the basic gestalt but Antifa(it means literally Anti-Fascist) are not associated with any political party. They just hate Nazis and the authorities and that's pretty much it. They mostly steer trouble in my country when a Nazi party wants to assemble to protest and they always turn violent. We got our own day of riots every year on May the first. They always clash with the police on that day and cost us a lot of money in the process. Like i said they have no political affiliation or real goals. They are just a bunch of losers who like violence. I'm surprised that they even showed up in the US. Antifa is more active in the EU. They never cared about the US when Obama was president. I'm now more inclined to side with our Nazis if there is another protest of some sorts. They at least evolved over the years but Antifa is still the same. I have no idea why we tolerated them in the first place. Daesh likes Antifa for some odd reason too. Go figure.

Okay well we're talking about the self proclaimed Antifa that showed up in Berkeley, not the ones in Germany.

Your antifa protest actual fascist and Nazi beliefs and actions. Ours protest mythical wage gaps and Starbucks. There's a tiny bit of difference between legitimate antifa and the left wingers that have co-opted the term here.

seem very confused a group claiming to fight fascists is trying to shut down a rally promoting free speech. So they seem to be making a statement you have no right to free speech unless we say so. Sounds very fascist to me and reminds me of the brown shirts before world war 2. They attacked free speech as well.
