i have been thinking about dave mustaine a lot lately. he just kind of popped into my head.
last night i watched some kind of monster(not because of dave) and there was a little spot where he was interviewed and when he talked to lars and james and it really made me feel bad for him.

let me start by saying i think he is a far better guitarist than kirk. personal opinion...
let me also say that metallica is a far better band than megadeath.....personal opinion....

now that it is out of the way how do you feel about dave?

after watching that few minutes of him talking about it i feel really bad for the dude..

he talks about how hated he is/was and i remember it too.
when i was in school metallica and megadeath were both making records and a few guys liked megadeath and dave but most people used to just punk dave and talk # about him...about how he sucks and blah blah

in the interview dave said he will be walking down the street and people will do the horns and yell metallica at him.
of course he was in major dick bag mode in the early days of metallica. had a serious booze and drug problem.

dave seemed very humble when talking about it and said that he wishes lars and james would have sat him down and told him to get his # together....
i feel bad cause i know a person needs to be responsible for their actions but it seems like lars and james didnt seem to care about giving him the boot.
strange they do him like that when the band had their struggles with alcohol for years....

not sure how much of what each of them say is true. i was not there...
just my opinions and thoughts.....curious as to other peoples

how do you feel about dave mustaine in general?
would you have liked to see him ride with metallica or are you glad kirk was there?

talking about music only, who would you rather listen to?

thanks for playing

Love Dave! Without Dave there is no Metallica. Without Metallica....I don't want to imagine...

Kirk is a scale whore and is obviously 2nd fiddle to Mustaine. I think the better battle would be Het vs. Mustaine.

My opinion on him is that he wants to play and write his way and will do whatever he needs to make his vision happen. Regardless of fame and fortune which I truly cannot say about Metallica.

Dave was the talent he was the artist from the group. Metallica was a great band but they got extremely soft, the black album while being popular was also their downfall. Dave brings the conspiracy theory angle better then metallica. His skills are much better as a guitarist and his writings of lyrics is much better "not singing" had they kept dave they would have been better.

well i mention him with kirk cause they are lead players.

ive always thought dave was a better guitar player and i think metallica would have faired much better musically with dave.

i dont know a lot about kirks writing ability...do you have any idea?

in that some kind of monster lars said the writing process up to that point was always they as a group would brainstorm ideas and then lars and james would go off on their own and write everything and come back and tell the others what to play and when to play it.

is kirk kind of up there just doing what he is told?
wonder how much freedom he had when playing...

I Love Mustaine even though he has right wing leanings,it doesn't matter to Me because I can look past that..Imo count down to extinction was MegaDeth's best album..

i feel like they would have been a better band too.
especially after hearing that kirk is basically playing what and when he was told(if true......i dont know)

i feel like dave would have brought not only superior playing skills but also skills with the pencil as well like you mentioned.

in your experiences do/did people hate on dave?
i never thought about it much till i watched that documentary and when i started to think about it it all came back to me.....
people were on kirks balls and just dogging dave out at every turn

i feel bad for him....
seems like he had trouble with substance at their start when they were all young and lars and james didnt seem to care enough to try and help him or get him help....
might not be the case but that is how i am seeing it.

that kind of sucks cause its not like they were angels...

metallica has sold something like 90 million records.....mustaine has sold in the neighborhood of 15 million. while that is not shabby at all it has to hurt.

decades later i think people treat dave a little better. he gets some recognition as a good musician. for years though it just wasnt happening for him

He's credited with writing quite a bit.
en.wikipedia.org...:Songs_written_by_Kirk_Hammett

I always presumed it was Lars, Het and their producer at the time so I'm not positive on what he actually had a hand in.

Maybe he gets to fill in the solo parts? Considering the length of their songs, I would presume that would be his mark in the process. I couldn't stand that movie however. It really showed how far they are from what they came from and shows how douchey Lars and Het have become IMO.

People wouldn't clown him so hard over it if he'd just got on with it and moved on in the 80s. It's because he's spent decades being bitter and whiney. Kirk may not be a better guitarist but he is a better fit as a placid and almost timid character in a group with 2 gargantuan domineering egos.

Hetfield, Ulrich and Mustaine are the holy trinity of metal douchebags.

Dave and Megadeth VS Metallica?!? Please,, Metallica is the Spinal Tap of metal, and Lars is the poster child of little man syndrome.

i got that vibe too. i felt like lars and het were both being bitchy. i saw their points on some stuff too though.
i see het wanting time for his family but the whole thing about only recording/writing/was to be done between noon and 4. he didnt want anyone else doing anything without him.

i see how lars would be pissed that that. structure is one thing but youre a rock band making a rock album...strictly 4 hours a day??

i didnt get the vibe they HAD to make another album for a contract or something. so i was thinking if it is so damn hard and so much bitching then why do it?

i do like trujillo though. always felt he is a good fit. cant stand how he slings the bass but other than that i like him all around.

Dave was early Metallica that's for sure. Mechanix is the four horseman and an epic song. Dave also is an excellent guitar player. Kirk needs to learn how to use a wah pedal for one thing! Dave brought Marty Friedman to light! He has no problem finding phenomenal players and working with them, so we know Dave can keep he ego in check. I believe Mustaine has been truer to his music through the years than Metallica. I like James but I think Lars is a troll. Metallica vs. Megadeth = Megadeth! Dave has been the consistent artist. Metallica may have more money in the bank but Megadeth has a rich musical legacy and some damn blistering guitar work!

Who the hell is metallica to say anything about substance abuse lol most of that band are ex drunks!

Never hated on dave but I was late to the party with metallica meaning for years i had no clue dave was in their band "I was young then" when i found out he was and what albums he was on it made sense to me why i liked metallicas older albums and mega deth too.

I get what your saying about recognition however it's like dave was kicked out of the beatles people love the band and if that band doesn't like someone their fans hate you too lol. Harsh to be dave and basically help create one of the best bands ever only for that band to kick him out and the bands success to create a legion of superfans who didn't like dave. Lol talk about creating your worst enemy. Its like a
f--king Greek tragedy for dave where he got to watch his greatist hope for the band happen then they kick him out and turn on him and I'm sure it would turn anyone into an arsehole.

TST,

Love him!!! Was that a question?? LOL.

The first metal band I ever saw! It was so old school they were calling him "the ex-lead guitar player of Metallica!!"

Kicks @ss!! Only Zakk and Morrello have equal chops!

:rawk:

A Tout le monde and tornado of souls and Symphony of destruction are all excellent tracks.
I used to hate megadeth and be a massive Metallica fan, I've seen metallica live 6 times.

Over the years though, I've started to prefer the roughness of Megadeth to the strict organised way of metallica.

Marty friedman is one of the greatest soloists thats ever lived.

That said I still love Ride the Lighting album.

As People, Lars - I hate, Hetfield seems chill, Kirk is a hippy dude and seems decent, Dave used to be one of the biggest A holes in music, he's mellowed to hell and now seems like he's on the right path.
