It was Canberra when I visited there in the 1950s and had been for some time judging by the buildings, artificial lake Burley Griffin, fountains etc

Sources? Care to back that up. You do realize the OP author is probably not Australian. Or are you just looking to antagonize Australians?

I thought it was Brisbane for years until Billy Connolly pointed it out to me if that helps?

Are you Trolling? - According to your own words you claim to be Australian. GTFO

Brisbane re-entry of something
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Bout 5:30 today in Brisbane Australia I saw something weird. I haven't found an explanation and I really shoulda taken a photo but I stared at it until it went beyond the horizon.

This example may or may not have been the best one to use for capitals haha. The one that's gaining a lot of attention in the you tube world. Is Brazil's capital. Many remember it as Rio Den Janeiro, I always have remembered it as that as well.

But now it's Brasilia. Lol.. Like one poster mentioned earlier in this thread. I'm more interested in the bigger Mandela effects then the company logos, minor details changing etc...

Many who are experiencing Mandela effect swear that our very human anatomy's have changed. That the heart is in the center of the chest now as about to slightly to the left .. things like this are mind boggling to say the least.

Oh gawd... not another one.

But, to be serious for a moment. Rio is surely more well known than Brasilia. I wonder if people just make assumptions that because a city is very well known then it must be the capital.

Cities like Paris and London are easy because they're always in the news, mentioned in adverts, etc and associated with their respective countries.

Australia, on the other hand has a handful of reasonably well known cities of which Sidney might be the best known. Canada, has a few well known cities but nothing makes one stand out from the other - not to the rest of the world at least. Who knows the capital of Canada? I'm guessing Ottawa or is it Ontario...

If American politics were not so well known how many of us might think that the capital of America is New York?

I remember when I discovered where Washington was. What? What's it doing all the way up there? Before then I would definitely have placed it on the East Coast.

Anyway, I'm not claiming Mandela Effect, just a distinct lack of interest in geography.

Not trolling, I'm in Brisbane.
I honestly learnt that Brisbane wasn't the capital because of Connolly.

I did try and search for a link but I'm not looking through hours of footage to find it.

Perhaps there's some Connolly fans out there who remember it.
Perhaps that bit only existed in "my" timeline.

Either way I thought it was interesting and relevant to the discussion.

The problem is I've heard even high budget hollywood movies used rio de janeiro as valid in movie answers to trivia contests for the movie characters. It's amazing that no one knew or thought to check and everyone just went with it.

I would have sworn it wasn't always Canberra, I 'remember' it changing back in the 70/80's.

However I have now given it some thought and although i still 'remember' it changing perhaps it was just that my parents had it wrong in the first place (although my dad's brother emigrated to Aus. in the 60's and we kept in touch ) Maybe they were confused by his/news/whatever mentioning a State Capital and they missed the state part and had assumed that whomever was talking, was talking about the Country capital and in turn informed me (we used to play general knowledge quizzes in the car while travelling)

Hope that makes sense

This was a post of yours from page 5. So you tell me who lacks pride in being an Aussie?

This is an example of the lack of national pride and culture in Australia not spooky magic.

I didn't notice this one about the capital of Australia until just recently though.

May I ask if you're from the United States? It seems that issues outside the USA don't register on many American's radar.
Canberra has always been the capital of Australia

That is how most American's are

It was a capital since last time i checked...that was back in 1980 something. I remember then concluding how it's strange that Canberra is the capital...I guess most people think Sidney...because it's the largest city in Australia.

Anyway...0 points for Mandella here...as always.

What the hell? Its Canberra? I always thought Sydney. Not because its the biggest city but because i learned that at school. And that was in the 90's

what the f people. Its Sydney. Cant be otherwise. Its always been Sydney
