William Bell is an American singer/songwriter who was born in 1939, in the Memphis heat.

What a look!

He signed with Stax Records (Issac Hayes, Otis Redding, Staple Singers also on this label) and released his first lp in 1967. He is still making music, and took a Grammy home in 2016.
I learned of William Bell from RZA in the movie Repo Men. Thanks, RZA!
