Hello Dave,
Good old Stanton Friedman's opinions are always a good topic for debate. He's been promoting the ETH (Extra-Terrestrial Hypothesis for longer than
most of us on here have been alive). But maybe that's his problem now. I'll come back to that later.
In general these are his points of view. He published these on his website in 1997.
As a nuclear physicist who has had a serious interest in flying saucers since 1958, I have reached four major conclusions:
1. The evidence is overwhelming that Planet Earth is being visited by intelligently controlled extraterrestrial spacecraft. In other words, SOME UFOs
are alien spacecraft. Most are not.
2. The subject of flying saucers represents a kind of Cosmic Watergate, meaning that some few people in major governments have known since July, 1947,
when two crashed saucers and several alien bodies were recovered in New Mexico, that indeed SOME UFOs are ET. As noted in 1950, it’s the most
classified U.S. topic.
3. None of the arguments made against conclusions One and Two by a small group of debunkers such as Carl Sagan, my University of Chicago classmate for
three years, can stand up to careful scrutiny.
4. The Flying Saucer story is the biggest story of the millennium: visits to Planet Earth by aliens and the U.S. government’s cover-up of the best
data (the bodies and wreckage) for over fifty years.
Since 1967 I have lectured on the subject “Flying Saucers ARE Real” at more than 600 colleges and over 100 professional groups in all fifty US
states, nine Canadian Provinces, twelve cities in England and nine in other countries, with only eleven hecklers. I have also appeared on hundreds of
radio and TV shows. Overall, I have probably answered about 35,000 questions about UFOs and secrecy.

Let's look at those points one by one:
Is the evidence overwhelming that Planet Earth is being visited by intelligently controlled extraterrestrial spacecraft?
Sorry Stan but no it isn't.
There is overwhelming evidence that UFOs exist. We have plenty of confirmation they do. Project Bluebook is the prime example. There are even some
solid cases where there is trace evidence, radar evidence and photographic and video evidence to support witness testimony. But nothing proves UFOs
are intelligently controlled extraterrestrial spacecraft.
The subject of flying saucers represents a kind of Cosmic Watergate….
After WWII as the Cold War tensions mounted and "flying saucer" reports increased there was undoubtedly a campaign in the United States (spreading
later to other nations) to restrict the UFO pandemonium. It began with a debunking of cases with simple explanations. Eventually witnesses were
ridiculed and the media has often treated the topic with a 'knowing smirk' ever since.
But nothing leads to anything other than there has been a lot of deception. It does not mean ET is visiting planet earth. Even though Stanton wants
you to think that.
None of the arguments made against conclusions One and Two by a small group of debunkers such as Carl Sagan, my University of Chicago classmate for
three years, can stand up to careful scrutiny.
This is a deception in itself. It is not possible to prove a negative. It is up to Stanton to actually 'prove' his own assertions that ET is visiting
planet earth. What does he offer up? Nothing. He prefers to shout down the sceptics.
The Flying Saucer story is the biggest story of the millennium: visits to Planet Earth by aliens and the U.S. government’s cover-up of the best
data (the bodies and wreckage) for over fifty years.
Many people are familiar with some aspects of the Roswell story. Despite that the facts of that story remain hazy to this day. We know something
crashed to Earth. We know the USAAF recovered the debris. We don’t know for sure what it was and we don’t know for certain that alien bodies were
recovered. In fact the Roswell AAF base intelligence officer, Jesse Marcel, never mentioned any alien bodies in his testimony. People like Glenn
Dennis did but were discredited much later because their evidence fell apart under scrutiny.
Now don't get me wrong Stanton Friedman has done an awful lot to engage debate, soften attitudes and open minds to the possibility that there is life
out there somewhere. But he's long been locked in the past in an era now long gone. Who cares if he's only had 11 hecklers in his 101 years of
lecturing. I'm sure the Pope could claim better figures. It doesn't mean his religion has any base in reality though. He can't prove God exists.
Unfortunately Friedman's whole approach is to argue against the sceptics and debunkers. Yes he may have got Phil Klass to write him a cheque because
he proved a date format and typewriter font were in use in 1947. But that still doesn't prove that ET is visiting planet earth. In fact he's been
playing the same old song for too long and stood still. Attacking someone else's point of view is his tactic because it diverts attention from his own
lack of proof.
Science is rapidly advancing and catching up. Mars missions, and probes to the outer solar system are giving us more and more information. We have
also found many exo-planets in the goldilocks zones around stars in our near neighbourhood. Who do you think is going to reveal alien life to us
first? Professional ufo entertainers like Friedman or the scientific community?
