BERLIN (Reuters) - A German gardener has been fined and stripped of his license for driving his lawnmower while drunk, a court said Tuesday.

The court fined the 45-year-old man 400 euros ($460) and banned him from driving all vehicles, including his mower, for three months after police did a check on him as he was parking the vehicle, which has a maximum speed of four miles per hour.

Police breath-tested the gardener after detecting the smell of alcohol as he finished mowing a lawn for a client. "He said he'd had a bottle of wine," Deppe said.

Finally a topic I can relate to...Mowers and drinking...YeeHaw!! Can a person actually mow grass without drinking? I thought both the machine and operator had to be gassed up! I guess if the guy was on a public highway like country music singer George Jones was , he could be fined but hassling a guy on private property is another story. Maybe he was loading the mower on a public roadway but the article doesn't say.

In all seriousness, I've never seen anything wrong with having a beer or three while cutting the lawn but one must realize that a mower, at least a big 20 horsepower machine like mine can be very dangerous and run out of control quickly. I think an entire bottle of wine would be a bit much to drink and still operate safely especially if other people are in the area.

An example in my area last year; a man giving his 2 year old son a ride let him fall off and when he jumped off to pick him up the mower ran over the child killing him. It was terrible. Not sure if achohol was involved but at least the safety kill switch had been tampered with which should have killed the engine when the driver's ass left the seat.

My yard isn't big enough (yet) for a riding lawn mower though when I lived w/ my folks and did their yardwork I had a cup holder on the riding mower. I always polish off a few beers and do yard work. I don't know if I could even do yardwork w/ out drinking beers

You can indeed get in trouble for that though. Even riding a bike or even a skateboard will land you a driving under the influence, or whatever they are calling it these days.

A German teacher who got drunk at an end-of-school-year party was arrested after his pupils called the police.

The 54-year-old allegedly punched a colleague at Herner Grammar School and attacked a parked moped.

When police arrived, he reportedly asked: "What do you want here? You didn't even finish school."

I remember a couple of years back..someone from about 75 miles from here was arrested for DUI on his mobility scooter. Those contraptions the older or infirm ride to get around.

Anyway...he scoffed at the police....drove by the station time after time until he was arrested again.

Still kept fighting the charges....insisted that it wasn't a motor vehicle, etc. and always lost.

Hell, the laws here...I can lose my drivers license being drunk on bicycle...

That have just recently revised the law in New Orleans.
You can now drive a bicycle drunk.

Also revised the no panties law in NOLA.
Girls can go without panties during Marti Gras and show the goods for beads.
